Chip and Joanna Gaines/My New Peeps

I've been tweaking my summer decor around here.
I've been very inspired by the artistry and decorating of Joanna Gaines from HGTV's new show, Fixer Upper.
It airs pretty late on Thursadays @ 10:00 p.m., Central Time, so I have it set to DVR.
I've started a board on Pinterest here because I'm so smitten with this show. They are such a cute couple.
I noticed that Joanna doesn't really use a lot of paintings for art work. Instead she uses metal work or salvage.
Most of my ornamental iron ended up outside so it got pulled off of the fence and brought back inside.

I sprinkled it about the living areas downstairs. I started in the garden room and went with a very neutral palette. Pops of green with pottery and a mix of real and faux ferns add some contrast. I broke my not so hard and fast rule and used some faux because ferns tend to be murdered in alarming numbers around here.

Searching the nooks, crannies, cabinets and closets yielded some tin accents.
It is my mission to keep cleaning out and purging this summer.

Did you know that these old clock dials were made with Radium so they would glow?
The factory workers suffered serious jaw injuries because they licked the brushes during painting. Yikes.

The green bus is a family piece.

I didn't know that Trumpet Vine would be a good clipping but it still looks great five days later.

The small trellis came from Tuesday Morning ages ago. I used a Sawzall to cut the stakes off the bottom. The only new items are the tin bulletin board, also from Tuesday Morning and the M. It came from Hobby Lobby. It got hit with a coat or two of metallic silver spray paint.
The bulletin board was over 50% off.

The kitchen got a new wall hanging.
The numbers were half off at Hobby Lobby and the planter came from another piece.

The planter came from this piece in a great divorce.
I flipped it upside down and now it's art.

Bill surprised me with a gift that arrived the last day of school.

Isn't it pretty? A white on white Kitchenaide mixer. I'm so excited.

Finally, I texted my brother, Dave and told him he needed to check out Fixer Upper. He went to Baylor and lived in Waco for years. He knew about the show and had run into Chip and Joanna in a favorite junk/antique store of ours in Waco. He said they were a nice couple.
Great job, HGTV!
Fixer Upper is fabulous.

You will get to see the living and dining rooms in the next post.
Have a great day.

  5. I've been watching that show, too, and I really like it. Good to know they are nice! I've got a lot of catching up to do on your blog, Katie! I'll be back tomorrow. I like using metal work, too, on the walls, or wherever. Love all your pieces!
