The Pie Safe

Bill and I found this chest years ago at the back of an antique store in Forney, Tx.
Forney was a great place just east of Dallas to go antiquing.
There were big warehouses lined up where the new I-20 and the old U.S. Route 80 merged as one.
In 1991 the new interstate was complete and Forney was no longer on the main thoroughfare.
Being the sharp tack that I am, it took me years to realize that Forney was "missing".
A quick Google map search shows many of the stores are still there.
This dresser was from the 30s or 40s.
It was veneered and needed to be refinished but it was only $35.00.

It was darling in our first little kitchen in our new house.
This has two shelves and a drawer so it had storage for dishes and linens.
When we moved to this house it got moved around quite a bit. I also took out the panels and replaced them with chicken wire.
It ended up in the garden room when we enclosed the porch.
But when we got a darling ice cream table it got moved to the laundry room.

Last year I decided to paint it and move it into the kitchen.

I didn't paint the inside so the contents of the cabinet got kind of lost.

It was okay but I missed having a desk in that spot.
I showed you the desk.

This piece got moved back into the garden room.

The finish needed touching up.
This was one of my chalk paint projects that went wrong.
The original color was okay but the clear urethane turned yellow on it and it needed some repair.

I painted the inside to brighten things up. I'm going to be honest and confess that in order to simplify this I used spray paint for the first coat.
It didn't work too well.

The white interior looks so much better.

There have been a few times over the years that I thought I could give this piece away but I still love it.

It's just so cute.

This is our first almost all white room - white furniture with white walls.
It is bright and light and I love it.

  1. Oh you have to keep it for sure!! It is so versatile. I've been considering moving my pie safe into the family room, but the piece I would have to swap with it will look awful in its place, so still thinking! Love your room. I've gone with lighter colors here, and love it too!

  4. I love it too, Katie. It's so versatile, and that's probably one of the reasons you kept it. Oh, I love your sunroom, it looks like a great place to relax!
