Cute Louis Vuitton Upcycle

Hi guys,
I thought I'd pop in for a quick post and update.

We are headed to the ranch today to check on our trailer.
We don't think that it was hit with the recent storms but it was one of the things that was neglected during Bill's illness.
He is literally coming back to life and noticing things that he hasn't in a while.
I'll do a post about our long journey to wellness but I need to wait until the middle or end of April.

I bought a cheap Louis Vuitton off of eBay years ago.
I tried to clean it up but the Vachetta leather was permanently stained.

The Vachetta leather is a raw cowhide leather.

On a brand new bag it is going to be quite light.
As it ages, it patinas to a beautiful honey color.

Anything darker than a honey color is dirt or a stain in my opinion.
Sometimes the dirt or stain can be cleaned with a warm wash cloth, magic eraser or even Barkeepers Friend.
I have used all of those on my bags but it didn't work on my little Musette Tango.
This had some deep dark marks around the piping of the bag.

Louis Vuitton has a line of bags called Macassar.
Instead of the natural Vachetta, there is black leather.
It is gorgeous.
I decided to alter my bag to look like that line.
It would be perfect for covering up the dark stains
Bill had some leather dye.

He used to do a lot of leather work before he got sick.
I used a mixture of black and brown dye.

I used it on the leather tabs as well as the piping.

It is a perfect crossbody for an evening out.
There are all kinds of affordable vintage bags on eBay.
Some would be perfect candidates for this treatment.
Thanks for letting me share.
Have a fabulous day.
Katie

  4. Thats a great makeover. I have one that's been tucked in my closet due to the stitching is starting to come loose and a pen ink stain. I just may have to break it out!
