I showed you the summer decor in our updated bathroom yesterday.
One of the best parts, aside from the beauty of it, is that I no longer have to worry about mold.
It reminded me of all I went through to update the look of this bathroom without spending a lot of money.
Our house was built in 1990.
If there was a contest among builders to see who could build a house using the cheapest fixtures possible, our house would have won.
:)
Two of the bathrooms had ridiculously cheap faux brass faucets.
The shower surround was faux brass.

I'd read a magazine article about using oven cleaner to strip off the brass plating.
I decided to give it a try.
It took many cans and applications of Easy Off Oven Cleaner but it worked!
I was thrilled.
I was thrilled.
As I was cleaning up the never ending mess from the shower, I realized that the oven cleaner was removing the finish from the jetted tub faucet.
I
decided to go for it and did application after application of Easy Off
until all the plating was removed from the faucet.
I still disliked the faucet but it was so much better without the faux brass.
It got us through four more years with this outdated bath.

Thanks for letting me share a snippet of our bathroom's past.

ReplyDeleteHi Katie - your bathroom is gorgeous! I love the tip about the oven cleaner...this could work on all sorts of ugly brass things! Thank you for the sweet visit :) xx Karen

Can you please tell me if you used regular oven cleaner in a can or the liquid kind? What was your method exactly?
