Vintage Back to School Decor/ Hello, September

I love September because our cooler days may just be around the corner. 

I hope. 

 You can take the teacher out of the classroom but that doesn't mean she doesn't love some teacher/back to school decor. 

All of my decor is home since I don't have a classroom to decorate. 

I've collected some fun vintage school and apple decor over the years. 

They've ended up in cute vignettes.  

 I pulled some of my favorite vignette photos out of my archives. 

Here are some photos from a decor session yesterday. 

I have looked for a vintage plaid lunch box for years and years. This one is a reproduction. I found it last year at the thrift store. It was $3.00. 

The stone apple with the brass leaf is my favorite apple. 

You can see it takes precedence in my displays. 

The chalk board was probably my mothers but it could be older than that. 

The pencil case was hers from the 30s. How cute is it? 

The antique certificate of merit is definitely a favorite.

Late Summer/ Early Fall Bouquets

Last summer I did a little binge pinning on Pinterest.

You're  not supposed to do that according the experts. 

It lowers your "re-pin-ability."

Are you kidding me?

How on earth do they decide this stuff? 

 

I became enamored with flowers in burgundies and yellows.

  They are the perfect harbinger of fall and

 would be a gorgeous scheme for an early fall wedding.

 I picked these pretties up at Kroger. 

 They are perfect with a little back to school centerpiece.

Yearning For Fall

I'm not sure there is a season that garners more yearning than fall. 

It happens to me every year. 

I cannot wait to pull out the bins filled with pumpkins and  scarecrows. 

After a few weeks of the extra fluff and folderol, I get anxious to pull it all down and pack it back up. 

It's a delicate balance. 

Poor Bill. 

'Tis the season of bins everywhere! 

Texas is tricky. 

While the rest of the country is showing off its autumn splendor, our leaves are still as green as can be. 

We start our show by mid to late November. 

Most of the time Bill is raking leaves before he puts out the Christmas lights. 

The Lord and I are going to have a conversation about this some day.

 I have to stop myself from decorating the house too early. 

It's even worse since I started blogging because every blogger wants to have the new pumpkin design that will go viral. 

Seriously, the one out of canning jar lids is just too cute. 
I think if you do a Google image search this pumpkin will pop right up.  

  

The orange gets to me after a few weeks so I've tried to come up with other colors that aren't as jarring to my senses and that are consistent with what is going on outside.

I like to use naturals. 

Heading outside to clip tree branches isn't going to happen because not much is going on. 

My dwarf Nandina bushes are my new "go to" source for branches during the fall.

 The chartreuse green leaves with a touch of coral are perfection. 

The delicate leaf is consistent with fall rather than a waxy leaf which would read tropical. 

They last for weeks. 

 I haven't started decorating for fall, yet, but I am pinning away images on Pinterest.

Apples, Apples Everywhere

I  usually pull out my apple stuff in August right before I head back to work. I am usually tired of the sea shells and what ever seasonal fruit I have had for the summer.  
I had cherries this year. 

Read about it here. 
I loved them.

I have gotten tons of cute apple things from students over the years. Most of them stay at school but the rest I bring home.

I've been teaching again for the last 17 years, so there are just too many cute things to keep at school.

I decided the red and white transferware made a nice background for my apples. It also made is it super easy because I didn't have to do anything to change out the china in my display niches. Read about them here.

Franciscan's apple pattern has been continually produced since 1940. 

I shared with you about my fabric apples. 

I schmooked white paint on an apple I got from Kirkland's a few years ago. It goes better with all the white I have going on. 

My darling daughter dabbles in art, she did a couple of oils for me a few years ago. 
I love  the turquoise and the red.

A few years ago Cracker Barrel had a sweet apple display. I got  the cute white apples there.

I shared with you about an applique skirt I got from my step mom. I framed each little fruit applique. The frame was gold but I painted it.

The sifter came from Bill's Granny Vi.

I'm loving my mom's antique chalkboard. 

I bought this chalkboard at Michael's. I bought it before I remembered I had  the antique one. 

The darling a.b.c. blocks came from garage sales and thrift stores years ago. You can get them at Mardel.

I only had two purchases.
I got this label off of e-bay.

This one I got at an antique store in town.

 I have been enjoying all this for the past few weeks. It is seeing me through the transitional period before the pumpkins come out.
