Hand Painted Blue and White Easter Eggs

I've told you this story before but I don't think you will mind if I tell it again. 

When the kids were little, they hunted Easter eggs. 

Before the kids went out to hunt, Bill always checked the yard to make sure that the Easter bunny was gone. 

One year he pretended that he encountered the bunny and an altercation ensued.  

He was invariably worse for wear after his confrontation with the rabbit. 

A tradition was born.

Each year the altercations seemed to become more and more violent. The kids loved it. 

I'm so sad I don't have a picture of the year he got on the wrong end of a pitch fork. Hilarious. 

These years just flew by. 

A few weeks ago, I chatted about blue and white. 

It's such a classic scheme. I've been rounding up a few blue and white porcelain pieces and I've been sprinkling them about the house. 

Pinterest is my "go to" spot for inspiration.

I was scrolling through images and I saw some eggs that were painted to look like blue and white china. 

Hello, Cutie! 

Hobby Lobby had a package of 12 brown eggs for $7.99. They were on sale for 40% off. 

When we went to a china painting event at the museum, my plate was done in a classic Royal Copenhagen motif. 

This is the Straw Flower motif but another common blue and white pattern is Blue Onion. 

Pretty pieces in my collection became the inspiration for my eggs. 

Each egg required at least three coats of white to cover the brown decoupage.

Coming up with different designs on each egg was a great exercise in creativity but it was fun! 

Various elements of the Denmark porcelain were highlighted on each egg. 

I don't consider myself an artist. I'm more of a copy cat. It's difficult to come up with my own motifs but other designs are easy for me to copy. 

No false modesty. 

All you need is the correct brushes and some practice painting a fine line. 

They are styled in a beloved vintage Easter basket. 

My old Dedham bunnies have all been cavorting about this season.

Blue Willow/ Winter Decor

I am ready to throw off the shackles of this sad holiday and forget Christmas 2013.



The added pressure to get it all done was almost too much for me at times and I was stressed out. 

I am ready to pack up all decorations and say good-bye to it all but I won't.



I am hosting my family on Saturday so putting away the trees will have to wait but I was ready to change things up in the kitchen.



You have seen my red and brown transferware collections but I don't think you have seen my blue and white dishes.

I have a set of Blue Willow dishes from my grandmother. 

My mom in her antiquing quests added to her mother's collection by including some 

Blue Onion pieces. 

We choose a blue and white pattern for our wedding china and I continued collecting it throughout the years.





I tired of all the pattern and color about 13 years ago and packed it all away. 

After a separation of sorts, I was able to pull it out to use
on occasion.



It looks beautiful with the white cabinets.

As I was thinking about my post holiday decor, I thought the blue and white would feel cool and wintery. 



I pulled it all out a few years ago but that was before we painted the kitchen cabinets. 

I love the pop of cobalt with all the white. 
Pretty.

I love this little corner with the "pie safe."

I found the pillow and the little heart at the big Christmas store in town.

I don't know why I love switching things up but I love having a new look every once in a while.



One of the benefits of having neutral color scheme is the ability to change the accent color on a whim.
