Five Fall Essentials/Essential #3 - Lanterns

I am back with the third installment in my series about my essentials for fall decor.
When we went to Charleston this past summer, I was just captivated by all the gas lanterns.
I love lanterns.
They are just too fun for fall decorating.

They give a warm glow that evokes evenings at home during the fall and winter months.
The sun is setting earlier and it's a perfect time to add some accent lighting with a lantern.

We found this one at Tuesday Morning. 

It is battery operated so there is no chance I'll forget and leave a candle burning. 

Yes, that has happened. 

I had a snowman crock with a candle in it.

I came down one morning and saw a tiny little glow in the kitchen window. 

Yikes! 

 The fact that it was in a crock saved us, I think. 

I prefer these battery operated candles for that reason. 

A lantern can be a perfect place to house a little vignette.

I adore our lantern by the front stoop.
It's so cute. 

We got this at a garage sale for five dollars.
Bill took the old wiring out and rewired it with a plug.
We plug it in on fall or winter evenings for a soft amber glow.

Filling a lantern with small pumpkins is adorable.

The owl lantern was a thrifted find. 

Isn't he a darling? 

Don't worry.
I've already blown out his candle.

Five Fall Essentials/ Essential #2- Greenery Clippings

I've come up with five fall essentials for my decor.
Yesterday I showed different plaid throws.
Another must have decor item is fresh clippings from the yard. 

I just recently discovered how wonderful wax leaf ligustrum looks in a fall vignette. 

The clippings last for about a week or more without being in water. 

They have a darling little berry. 

Boxwood is one of my favorites.
I used to have eight huge bushes for clipping.
We pulled those all out because they were so overgrown.
I only have one currently.

  I'd like to get some more for clipping but Bill says they smell like cat pee.

For years we thought the cat was peeing right by our front door.
Nope. It was the boxwoods.

Dwarf Nandina bushes are wonderful for clipping.
The leaf color can be a gorgeous chartreuse color.
Hints of gold and coral begin to appear until the reds appear around Christmas.

They are perfect since Texas is a little bereft of fall color.

Fresh Bittersweet

A bite of sweet followed by a bitter aftertaste. 

  

A sweet memory lace with a touch of sadness.

A charming vine dotted with a perfect pop of orange.

The American Bittersweet vine is on the decline while the Oriental Bittersweet vine requires vigilance to keep it from becoming invasive, 

but, what a sweet darling of fall.

I'm sharing ways that I've used fresh bittersweet in decor in the last three years.

A few years ago, I discovered that I could get it off of eBay.

In a couple of days, it come wrapped in tissue paper with a cute bow. 

I was thrilled since it doesn't grow in our area.

I love the yellow casing around that gorgeous orange berry.
The curling tendrils are just too adorable.

I bought mine from a seller called The Happy Crow. 

It makes a darling display with my happy crow in the garden room. 

It's cute in my chicken feeder from Tractor Supply. 

Sadly, it doesn't keep from year to year. 
The berries and casings drop like crazy causing a little bitterness at clean up time.
