A Little Christmas Bedding in the Guest Rooms

I love giving our bedrooms a touch of Christmas cheer by changing out the bedding. 

Rebekah's room was inspired by old Victoria magazines from the 90s. 

I adored that magazine and much of my early decor was inspired by what I saw within its covers.

Somehow black needlepoint on a plaid pillow is still a fresh look after all this time.
Plaid is hot this season and I've sprinkled it about the house.

I've had the red plaid fabric for years. It was one of the first plaids I bought and it came from Walmart.
Walmart used to have oodles of fabric for either 99 cents or $1.99.
They don't do that anymore.

I think I found the needlepoint pillow at Tuesday Morning.
The black comforter was from Walmart. It grounds the space and provides contrast to all the white and was only $20.00.
It's a cheap way to change up your look.

The black tray coordinates with the scheme.

A pitcher of greens and a metal reindeer from the Crate and Barrel store in NYC are the only Christmas items in this room but it still feels very Christmasy.

It looks so pretty from my chair in the game room.

The other upstairs guest bedroom or the dog's room is simply dressed in black accents as well.

A thrifted needlepoint pillow, throws and our black ticking Pottery Barn pillows dress the bed.

The alpine throw came from our cruise to Alaska.

A small ceramic and funky Christmas tree adorns a side table.

The bed in the office downstairs got a Martha Stewart plaid quilt folded over the IKEA bedding.

Our Belsnickle came from an artist that sells at the Green Flea Market in Manhattan.
He is adorable.

My heart goes out to those in the Christmas market in Germany.
So much of our traditional Christmas decor comes from early German ornamentation.
It is tragic.

German Devotional

I love decorating with old books and inherited a small collection early in our marriage. 

I've moved them and used them in various displays around the house.

I tried perusing some of them but the problem was some of them were in German so I didn't give them a thought.

 The other day, Rebekah was over and she spotted one of my lovely little decor books.

 She took German in college and immediately translated the book cover.

She noticed that it was a devotional book and began looking through it. 

She noticed that by certain dates there were names.

Someone used the little book as a birthday book.

This volume is charming. The illustrations are just gorgeous.

I couldn't believe that right under my nose was a list of birthdays for the relatives on my Mother's side. 
When I think of the time I spent doing research for our family history! 
We had a good time looking at and translating our verses. 
They seemed appropriate. 

Mine was Matt. 7:13
"Enter throughout the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to distraction and many enter through it."
A reminder that when I stick to the narrow path [the Lord's path] things always go better than if I stray out of His will. 

I always loved this book as a little decorative object now it means a little more.
