Garden Collectables In A Vintage Tool Tray

Good Morning. 

How are you? 

Whenever I visit First Monday Trade Days in Canton, Texas, I am always amazed at the junk.  

I feel the urge to put chicken feeders and nesting boxes everywhere or make an old washing machine into a flower pot. 

I've resisted these urges. 

I've been seeing tool trays from old tool boxes for a long, long time. 

It's been one of those junky things that I just feel the urge to buy, however, I knew that Bill had some old tool boxes in the attic. He has three of them up there.

Two of them had red tool trays which seemed odd since the boxes weren't red. 

The trays were greasy from use so I spritzed them with Greased Lightening. 

The red started to come off. These trays had been spray painted. 

I asked Bill a little while ago, if ever felt like he married someone just like his dear, old dad. 

He was a little taken aback at my comment but then, I think he had to agree. 

His dad and I had a rocky start when Bill and I got engaged. My FIL passed away seven months after we got married so I never got to see if he would have warmed up to me. I have to think that he and I would have eventually gotten along and we would have gotten into some major projects together. Nothing would have been safe from our spray painting antics. 

Bill's dad loved cars. He may have spray painted these with automotive spray paint left over from a car he was working on. Bill used to have a red mustang convertible. 

The trays cleaned up pretty well. They have a rusted, chippy look. 

I thought you might like to see my process for styling something like this. 

I gathered some vintage and new garden collectables for the small tray. 

Peat pots and clay pots were added first. 

There really was only one spot that the clay pot worked, so that is why it went in first. 

Peat pots provide an instant unmistakable garden look. I ordered mine off of eBay. 

Summer flowers were added next. 

Vintage garden tools and an old spray nozzle were added. 

I always save my empty seed packets to use in decorating. A brass butterfly and the seed packets were added last. 

The other tray is a little bigger so it got styled with the same items. 

I couldn't decide which one to use. 

The bigger one in now the centerpiece on the kitchen table. 

You'll get to see it when the kitchen gets styled for summer.

Junkpalooza Day Three

The object of the day for day three is to stay hydrated. 
I've been dehydrated a couple of times and it is not fun. 

This heat wave is relentless and it zaps a body, so we headed to the outdoor venue first. 

Did you expect produce at Green's Produce?  
They have that and more. 

A produce associate of the owner is a junk and salvage dealer. 

 This man will chat your ear off.
He will tell you about his travels to the Midwest to ferret out treasures that are languishing in barns. 
Um... I want to do that. 

I've been saving my money for this stop on the junky trail. 

Cute, cute farm stuff. 

Yikes. 

I got this darling pie safe. 

Eeek! It's so cute. 

We ate lunch at The Tin Cup. I had the Doc Holiday which is roast beef on rye with feta cheese, sundried tomatoes, and chives. Delicious.  

If you are ever in Arlington for lunch it is a winner.

There was a cute shop in the corner of the shopping center behind the Tin Cup. 

We browsed for a minute in there but didn't get anything. 
 Half Price Books in North Arlington was our next stop. 

I took my time and shopped for books to go with our theme this year at school. 

In a genius moment we stopped in at Decorator's Warehouse. 
The air is always chilly. 
 It allows one to pretend it is almost Christmas and that it isn't 100 degrees outside. 
Try it sometime.

The decorations are AMAZING.

I noticed a section of lights out on my tree so they told me to bring it in early to get fixed. 
I'd do it tomorrow if it weren't 120 degrees in the attic.

Junkpalooza Day Two

 How are you?
I've been so busy junking that I haven't time to post about day two of Junkpalooza.

103 degrees. 

Once it hit 103 degrees, day two of Junkpalooza came to a close.
It was even too hot to take very many photos. 

I found some a couple of cute things and a few books.  

Day two got off to a late start because we had to wait for the air conditioning man.
The good news is that our upstairs is cooler than it has been all summer. 

He was replacing leaky coils and installing another vent for our room. 
Yipee. 

Our first stop was Arlington Resale. 

It is my favorite junk shop. 

Maybe I should say Junque Shoppe because it isn't your run of the mill thrift store.
The front room looks like an antique store. 
They get great stuff including some of the stuff that I have donated. 
Not to brag but they love my stuff. 

Things turned a bit dicey when my eagle eye brother spotted one of the chairs I had given them.  I failed to mention to him that Bill and I cleaned out the attic and donated some of my great grandmother's rickety chairs. 

Bill and I had come to the sad conclusion that no amount of coaxing would be able to convince any sane person from sitting on these chairs. 
They were in the attic waiting for a lake house that may or may not ever happen.
After a moment or two of silence, Dave seemed to understand. 

Whew. 

Why did my grandmother label all her furniture? 

These are my finds from Arlington Resale. 

 My affair with green continues.

The tea leaf was only $1.00. 
This was my great grandmother Lueke's everyday china. 
 Ironic since I'd given away two of her chairs. 
"Oops" was all Bill had to say.
Dave did not make me buy back my great grandmother's chairs.
Thank goodness. 
The thought did cross my mind. 

We finished up the awkward moment and headed to J. Gilligan's for Irish Nachos. 
I highly recommend them.

 Get the salad for lunch if that will make you feel better about the calories consumed because of this delicious appetizer. 
It's worth it. 

Potato skins smothered in cheese with sour cream and jalapenos.
So good. 

After lunch we went to Salvation Army. 
Then we headed to Thrift Town. 
The roads are all torn up so a 2 minute trip took about 15 minutes.

 I found the best brass chargers.

There were six of them for $2.99 each. 
I wish I'd seen them when it was half off blue week. 
I've worked to build up my charger collection. 
 I didn't have a charger collection until I started blogging. 

You can't do a blogger tablescape without chargers. 
It's a rule or something. 
I'm sure of it. 

Dave wanted to visit the pawn shop he frequented in H.S. 
I turned the wrong way on to a one way street. 
It wasn't a one way street when Dave was in H.S. 
 Thank heavens for the Methodists because their parking lot saved me from a head on situation. 

It was 103 by the time we returned to the car. 

We were getting hot and thirsty.  I was a little crabby.

We ran into one more Half Price Books and then headed home to the blissfully cool house. 

It was a fun and thrifty day.

Junkpalooza 2016

It is time, my fellow junkers and thrifters - Junkpalooza 2016.

 I believe in "Paloozas". 
"Paloozas" or "Fests" make ordinary things so much more exciting and fun and suddenly they become an event!

 I think I could have a career in renaming things.

These are spot on, if you ask me.

 Junkpalooza is one of my favorite things about summer except for maybe Floatfest.

Yes. 

That is me on a giant swan. 

 Once a year my brother, Dave comes for a junking jaunt. 

We jog through town looking for castoffs and neglected treasures.

This experience isn't for everyone. 
You have to be impervious to certain smells.
I took Bill junking one time. 
By the end of the day, we had a whole room full of brand new furniture. 
This is a true story. 

 Dave and I will hit Half Price Books and several thrift stores. 

We will even get to a couple of antique stores if there is time. 

I thought we could look over some of my previous junky finds in anticipation of Junkpalooza 2016. 

It will be hot. 

There will be dirt. 

There will be Irish Nachos.

There may even be bagels. 

There will be smells. 

I'm not sure what we will find but I'm so excited about it.
