A Few Of My Favorite Things For Fall

I wanted to pop in and show you what is going on for fall the garden room.

I love the brown pillow on the loveseat.
It pairs well with a thrifted woolen throw.
Our dry cleaner is right around the corner from the thrift store so I drop throws off as soon as I find them.

The squirrel cookie jar was also a thrift store find during one of my brother's junking trips.

Nut house! Hilarious.
That about sums it up.

I've been trying to use my favorites this season.

It was raining the morning I worked on the garden room.

I love puttering around the house when it's raining.
Stuff looks so cute when the accent lights are turned on.

The scarecrow is a darling. I found him on eBay.

The squirrel was a First Monday Trade Days find.
First Monday is a legendary North Texas flea market.

The preserved leaves and bittersweet were left over from last year.
They don't look as good as they did but they are okay.

I found the squirrel planter on another thrifting expedition with my brother.
I love this vintage piece. He is such a cutie.

The pumpkin on the secretary came from the H.S. craft fair. I haven't been to that fair in a couple of years but this piece is one of my favorite ceramic pumpkins. It's been glued back together a few times. Usually stuff gets tossed when it gets broken but not this one.

That is about it for today.
"These are a few of my favorite things."
Hopefully, you are singing that in your head.
Let my know if you use your favorites in the fall.
Have a wonderful day.

The Wannabe Fall Front Porch

Have you ever had something on a wish list that never came to fruition?
One of my "must haves" when we bought this house was a front porch.

Hermine Throw, Fall Display, Pumpkins

It just goes to show that "must haves" sometimes are not meant to be.

I've drooled over pictures on the internet of big front porches.
Pumpkins, corn stalks, throws and boots tumble all over the image in a veritable wonderland of fall splendor.
My porch? Not so much.

I was trying to sleep one night when inspiration struck.
That happens to me a lot.

Jackolantern, Fall sign, mums,

I don't know where Bill went but I always do this kind of stuff when he isn't home.
I shop when he isn't around.
Shopping with a banker isn't all that productive.
That's all I'm going to say about that.

Hermine Throw on a Bench with Hunter boots and a Jackolantern.

I decided to create the illusion of a front porch by removing one of my Dwarf Nandina.
They aren't so dwarf anymore after 26 years.

There was an old park bench on the side of the yard creating an illusion of courtyard.
Not so successfully, if I can be honest.
I laid some flagstones down and moved the bench around to the newly cleared area.
The stone foundation keeps the feet level and out of the dirt.

I had fun styling this!
I  feel like I have a veritable porch wonderland of scarecrows, pumpkins, a throw stolen off of the couch, mums, and the rainboots that live in the hall closet.

Bill thinks it's cute.
He firmly declared that no one would sit on it.

Who can sit on it?
I need room for my  boots, throws, pumpkins, scarecrows and mums!

The First of October

Happy October, everybody!
I love October 1st.
It was my dad's birthday.
Happy Birthday, Dad!

In a day of remembrance of him, I love decorating the front porch for fall and Halloween.

I've exercised quite a bit of self control the last two weeks because Bill brought me the cutest jack-o'-lantern from the grocery store.

I've wanted one for about two years but never felt like I could justify $29.00 for a clay pumpkin.
Bill felt okay about it.
I'm glad he picked it up when he did because they are gone now. The mums came from the same store.

He even made new cedar seats for our ice cream chairs.
No more moldy seat covers.
The scarecrow is from Hobby Lobby two years ago.
That was my splurge that year but he looks brand new unlike a $6.00 scarecrow.

I wasn't sure if I would do the vines around the door but the trick or treaters love my Halloween lights.

Without garland,

With garland.

I rolled up a string of lights and set it in "Jack".
I can't wait to see him when the sun goes down.

The old light fixture came from a garage sale.
It was only $5.00.

The wreath got a new black and white burlap ribbon and some of the fresh bittersweet I ordered.

Love it.

The entry got worked on too.

You can read the crazy story of our Empire chest here.
It is a great place for my favorite scarecrow and my favorite pumpkin. I draped the basket with more bittersweet.
Olive is a perfect accent color for this area because of Bill's grandmother.

I'm crazy about the book under the leaves and pumpkin.
It is a perfect color for here.

It was just gorgeous this morning as we were decorating but it was warming up quickly.
That's October in Texas for you.
I hope you are having a great day.
