Patriotic Pinterest Challenge

Good Morning.
I hope you had a blessed weekend.
If you are coming from Paula's blog at Sweet Pea, welcome. Paula always has something cute to show off.

I want to say a big thank you to Cindy over at County Road 407 . These Pinterest challenges are so much fun. Each month, Cindy picks out an inspirational photo. She sends the photo to some friends and we adapt to our personal style.

Our inspiration today is from Home Is Where The Boat Is.

This photo is patriotic perfection and it's a fun color scheme from Memorial Day until 4th of July.
Some years, I've kept flags in my flower pots until after September 11th.

All of our seasonal decor is kept in the garage in plastic totes.
I pulled out my patriotic decor and got to work. There is nothing new in the display.
I used what we had around the house and yard.

Our bench is black instead of white but it has a curved top like the photo above.
The inspiration bench features pillows made out of antique textiles.
The Yo Yo quilted pillow is our only textile with an antique look. I got the Yo Yos from my old craft mall years ago and sewed them onto a redi-made pillow cover. I just this love this pillow. It screams summers at grandma's house to me.

The long bench cushion came from Walmart earlier this season.
I love having a cushion on my bench. The paisley pillows were from Joann's last year, I made the denim pillow, and the star pillow is from one of the craft stores.
I think I got Uncle Sam at the same time.

The antique 4 gallon crock is the star of the our patriotic displays. I used it instead of the watering can in the photo.
If you don't have little fabric flags, go and pick some up at your grocery, hardware, or craft store.
They are the easiest way to get some patriotic fervor going.

The table went with a child sized ice cream set. My brother's and I had this set as children. There were six chairs that went with it and I have two of them.
The old top was worn oak veneer and it was worn out. Bill made a new one out of a $7.00 pre-cut table round from Home Depot. We stained it and put 3 or  4 coats of Minwax Helmsman Satin Oil-based Spar Urethane on it. It's not the end of the world if it gets caught in the rain.
This little table wasn't getting used and now it gets used all the time.

The flowers are periwinkles. Periwinkles lines my grandparent's driveway.

The pennant was hanging in my classroom for a few years.

Why not set up a red, white, and blue display of your own?

Next up is Benita at Chasing Quaintness.  I can't wait to see how she has interpreted her display.

4th Of July Guest Room

My heart longs to get away to a lake cottage in the summer.

The muscle memory of time spent at my grandparent's Wisconsin lake house pulls like a cord.

The perfect painting was a long ago garage sale find.

I unearthed it in a closet a few weeks ago so the guest room deserved a summer makeover in its honor.

The heirloom Eastlake chair got a new seat cover out of some thrift store calico.

I found a perfect gem in the desk.

I'll be framing this coloring book from the 1930s. It belonged to my mother in law.

I can't even get over how so, so cute it is.

The bed was already dressed in a patriotic theme.

The gingham quilt was a T.J. Maxx find a few years ago.

I stitched up the flag pillow a few years ago when I was feeling crafty.

A few vintage postcards are clipped to the Victorian towel bar turned art piece.

Somehow I was able to manage small children and quilt. I'm not sure how I did that.
I made the blue and white quilt about 20 years ago.

The toy boat came from an antique store.

One of my favorite things in the room is the flag painting.
It was a hooked rug design that I translated into paint.
I just love it.

A few patriotic touches layered onto a white base equals a perfect summer guest room.

Instead of jetting off to Wisconsin, I only need to walk down the hall.
Thanks for stopping in to look.
