The Evolution Of A Color Crush/Round Two

If you have followed me for a while, you might recall that I have a tendency to be rather fickle with regard to color. 

I fall in and out of love almost as fast as a contestant on The Bachelor. 

One day a color is my main squeeze and the next it's out. 

Last fall, I spied a darling truck at Hobby Lobby. 

There was very little red in the house until I bought this truck. 

My son brought me an adorable bird house from Seattle at Christmas. 

After Christmas, I couldn't pack away the red. 

Our Valentine's Day decor featured red instead of my "go to" pink. 

Slowly but surely, red has been creeping into more of our spaces. 

A few weeks ago, Bill kicked me out of the house so he could work on his woodland garden centerpieces.

He gave me some cash and kicked me to the curb. 

Actually, I went estate sale-ing. 

One of the sales featured a collection of red and white Mason's tranferware. 

It was half price day. The large pitcher was $30.00. The small was $12.00. 

They are fabulous. 

The dining room got a red and white tablescape to showcase the new pitchers. 

My oak leaf hydrangeas are blooming like crazy. 

The red truck that started it all, got a cute summery load. 

The niches in the kitchen were emptied, cleaned and filled with red china and glassware. 

It never dawned on my to display these red glasses. Love, love, love! 

I needed a spot to stash the blue so the dish dresser got a set of curtains to hide the contents. 

I am absolutely in love with this. It looks like checks but it's actually vintage red and white ticking stripe. My grannie's chair and pad are put into action. 

Finally, the best ever red fabric by P. Kaufman was used to make a few pillows. 

You might ask, "Why so cottage looking, Katie?"

We stumbled upon a cottage built in 1901. It was in a great neighborhood. Sadly, there are drainage and foundation issues that have scared us off.  

It was also priced as if it had some remodeling. Nope. That kitchen hasn't been touched since the 60s. There was also another kitchen at the back of the house. What? 

That's what's going on with me these days. 

My projects are a few weeks behind my blogging which isn't good. 

I'll try to do some catching up. Hopefully, I can put together a summer house tour.

Red Berry Door Basket/A Pinterest Challenge

Good Morning! Welcome to the April Pinterest Challenge. 

I want to say a huge thank you to Cindy at County Road 407 for hosting this event. 

This was so much fun to create. I know that you will be inspired as you visit the different blogs on our tour today. 

Our inspiration piece is this darling wall pocket from Tracy's Trinkets and Treasures. 

I love pocket containers used at door decor. 

Our front door doesn't have much space for any door decor. 

We love our front door but there is only about 24 inches between the top of the door and the shelf.

A full and gorgeous wreath is always out of the question. Most pockets are too long to begin with and the addition of flowers is then out of the question. 

There were two elements essential to this challenge - the pocket container and the hydrangeas. 

Hobby Lobby had some gorgeous silk hydrangeas. The bunch was a little pricey and not on sale but I pulled up the 40% coupon on my phone. 

They also had some wall pockets that were cute but they would not have worked for my door. 

The thrift store had one exactly like the inspiration picture except it was white. 

Again, it was too big for my door. 

I had a wall basket in the garage.  

I wired it to another wreath to give it a little more presence. 

A darling watering can was in the spring section at Hobby Lobby.

 It brought the right amount of drama and contrast to the white hydrangeas. 

A nest pick was added to the display. 

I found the nest when I went looking for berries. There is a fruit section. At my store it's next to the fairy garden stuff. 

They had adorable ribbon. 

The star of the show is a little insect pick.

Cottage Bedding in the Master

I hit Pinterest with a vengeance when it looked like we might buy the less than perfect lake house. 
You can visit my lake house board here.  

  It is no secret that I love cottage interiors. 
Deep in my soul that is the style I feel most comfortable with. 
I try to temper my love for all things cottage with Bill's more lodgey and contemporary preferences. 

Since the lake house deal is dead, I decided to "cottage" up the beds for summer. 
There were colorful elements lurking in the armoires even though the beds have been monochromatic for the last few years. 

The base for the master bedroom was a king size dust ruffle from Ralph Lauren. 
Macy's had it on clearance about three or four years ago. 
 eBay came to the rescue when no other components could be found.

A seller made pillow covers out of designer sheets. 
I bought two covers.
Changing out a bed for the seasons is as easy as making the bed. 
The only challenging part is wrestling the mattress to get the dust ruffle on.

Once the ruffle was in place, it was time to pull out pillow cases and shams to see which direction to go. 
I love the chambray color cases with the lace peeking out from underneath. I've had these a long time. 
They've been part of many different bedding sets.

Layering an ordinary pillow case with a lace one underneath elevates the bedding. 

The red ticking cover came from Pottery Barn.

The YoYo pillow top came from the old craft mall in town.

The white embroidered pillow is Chaps by Ralph Lauren. 
It's been on the bed for years.

The quilt at the end of the chaise came from my grandmother. 

 I was repairing this quilt almost 33 years ago on Valentine's Day. 
Bill called. I knew then that he liked me. 
We started dating two months later and were married the next year. 

I made a little sailboat quilt for Chris almost 30 years ago for his "big boy" bed. 
He says he cannot be trusted with it yet, so it stays here for safe keeping.

The other quilt resting on the school house desk came from a garage sale. 
I had a dream that morning that I found a quilt at a garage sale and I did.
It was only a dollar.
 

 

Daisies seem perfect with this cottage scheme. 
The lake scene painting also came from a garage sale.
