More Winter Decor and Christmas Clearance Shopping

I'm one of those weird people that likes winter. Bill thinks it's so odd. A lifetime of school and teaching has me longing for a snow day each winter.
I hope we get one. In the meantime, I like to cozy up the house for the season.
It's been 4 months since I decorated for early fall so I cannot even remember what my regular decor looks like. I know that we had blue and white porcelain pieces and blue and white ikat pillows. That seems too summery, even for Texas, so those won't be coming back out until spring.
Here is what I've been sprinkling around the house lately.

I found a darling basket at Hobby Lobby for 80% off.
It was missing a chalkboard element in the center but I didn't need that anyway.

I clustered some dried and faux eucalyptus and some faux lamb's ear in front of it.
The spindle was in the garage waiting for a home.
The print is Edith Holden from Diary of An Edwardian Lady.
My youngest got me the box for Christmas.
I love this vignette!

The mantel got some pine cones and some of the faux eucalyptus
It came from the winter collection at IKEA so I bet it is all sold out.
It looks pretty real which is why I picked it up.

The lights are still on my faux boxwood topiary. The crock is darling on the hearth.

I picked up a flannel plaid heart years and years ago.
It is perfect with my decor this year.

I have three of them. They are fun to tuck in here and there.

I found the cutest birds on sale at Hobby Lobby.
They were Christmas ornaments but they are perfect for winter.

Another one of these went into the dining room centerpiece.

I found a precious string art piece as well.
It only needed a few nails to fix it.

It was fun to fix. It's hanging in the powder bath.

My tiered tray got a darling trio of snowmen on a toboggan.
Their scarves were red. I had to paint them blue instead.

I'd been eyeing this snowman from Peacock Park for about a year. I think I snapped up the last one at my Christmas store.

My other son found this darling mouse in Seattle.
He's staying out to cozy up the kitchen a bit.

The snowman place holder was also a Hobby Lobby find.
It was 79 cents. I don't use place card holders but his scarf was too cute and it was in my color palette. It matches an old Monet box that Bill got for me a few years ago.

I'd also been wanting to add a different kind of Christmas light string to the tree in the garden room but I wanted to wait until they were on sale. Rather than wait until next Christmas to try them out, I put them on our slim pine tree and decorated it with snowmen.
Here's a little video of it.

That's it for today.
I hope you're staying warm and cozy.

  4. Well, of course you like winter! You don't live in Michigan where it is five months long some years! But oh, I really do love your winter look. I'm working on mine this week but I don't think it could be nearly so charming. Nice finds!

  5. Katie,
I adore all your 'Wintry' touches!
The snowmen are adorable and I love
that you changed their scarf color to match your decor.
I, too like to add greens during this time of year
fills in the 'bare' spots with the promise of what is to come.
Wishing some 'snow' for your Texas heart.

  8. Love the mouse and the blue and white spice holders. FYI Speaking of clearance sales. If you are buying Christmas lights be sure they have the Union Label (UL) on them. One year a friend made a floral arrangement on her sideboard with cheap lights in it. Good thing they were home when the lights burst into flames. Lot of damage to her home.
