Meet Alma/Dyeing A Louis Vuitton Alma

I think I told you that I had a few things on my wish list before my paychecks run out.
Today's deposit may be the last one.
Boo.
I also had some birthday gift cards from eBay.
Fun, fun, fun.

I found the classic Louis Vuitton Alma MM for a bargain during some late night browsing.
This is a handbag post. You are welcome to opt out, if handbags aren't your thing.

Alma came in on a jet plane from Japan.
I think I've said this before. Japan has strict counterfeiting laws.
The sellers I use want to sell $15,000 Hermes, Birkins and $5,000 Chanels.
They aren't going to risk their selling reputations selling fakes.
There are other parts of Asia that are known for fakes, however.
I steer very clear of sellers from other countries.
I've done all my own authentications but there are professional authenticators available if you aren't sure what to look for and you would like to buy designer items on eBay.

Before:

After checking it over for authenticity, all the brass was cleaned up with Bar Keeper's Friend.

This girl was dirty.

Bags with Vachetta leather on the bottoms typically have issues with stains.
People will accidentally set their bag down in water and unless the bag is pre-treated with leather protector, the water will stain it.
This bag is from the 90s and it looks like it has a big water stain on the bottom.

I wiped the whole thing down with a warm, damp wash rag.
I also wiped the inside of the bag out as well.

The stains on this bag didn't come out but that doesn't matter because I'd always planned on dyeing it.
I let it dry.
Nail polish remover or acetone will deglazed the leather so that it can absorb the dye.
Dip a cotton ball into the nail polish remover and gently wipe down the bag.
Let it dry.
I used Fiebing's Leather Dye in USMC Black.
The larger parts were dyed using the cotton wand that comes with the dye.
The smaller parts needed a finer hand so I used a paint brush with a very fine tip.
One coat covered up most of the staining.
Leather dyeing is messy so be careful with the product.

Let it dry for about an hour after each coat.

After two coats of dye and a finish coat with Angelus Brand Acrylic Finisher in High Gloss, she was ready for her debut.
This bag is stunning.
The Macassar line, black leather trim with monogram canvas, started in the men's line but it's branched into the women's collection.
There have been several Limited Edition Almas that have a similar dye treatment.

The Alma is a Louis Vuitton Icon.
It began as a piece of luggage with compartments for clean and dirty laundry.
It was redesigned in 1934 and became the Squire.
It was made over again during the 1950s and was renamed the Champs Elysees.
It has been a ladylike staple ever since is was redesigned and renamed in 1992.

It is a lovely, structured bag.
Usually I like my bags slouchy and a little relaxed.
This one, however, is not.
A few years ago, bloggers and YouTubers began dying older, worn out Almas and other bags.
I've been dying to dye one ever since.
Pun intended.

I have to say that this exceeded my expectations. This bag is stunning.

The brass detail is gorgeous.
I added an after market leather strap so this bag can be worn over the shoulder.

The lock can connect the two zipper pulls so that the bag is impervious to the notorious French pickpockets.

I realized as I was straightening my purse closet, that I have unknowingly been collecting the classics.
This one is a gorgeous addition to my collection.
Thanks for letting me share.

What To Do?

Our stock tank pool continues to be the most popular DIY to date.
Twice this week, I've seen my photos on other larger sites with no link back to me.

Cottage Life - Television and Magazine in Canada.
architecturemagz - this site is all about ripping off others work and reposting it, a complete clickbait site.
Please don't go to it.
I have contacted both sites concerning my intellectual property.
Let me know if you see any of my pool pictures.
Has this happened to you? What should I do?

If Life Gives You Lemons

We have a bit of a "life giving us lemons" scenario going on.
Pop up a prayer for my family, if you would.

I showed you my sprinkling of lemons a few weeks ago.
I've loved the pop of yellow these add to our summer home.

I have a collection of adorable vintage beaded fruit.

Let's play "what's missing?".

I needed to have a beaded lemon in my life.
Needed!
Not to mention, I was sick with a weird bug and stuck on the couch.
I made the little beaded strawberry in the above photos, so I knew what to do.
I collected my supplies.

I assembled my faux fruit of choice, beads in the appropriate color and yellow iridescent sequins.
Beading pins are similar to straight pins but they are a little shorter in length.
You can find them in the beading aisle at the craft store.

Pick up a pin, put on a bead and then put on a sequin.

Stick into the lemon.

I watched crime shows and rested on the couch.

Update: I decided I wanted more of the sequin to show, so I went and got larger sequins to put on each pin.

Either way was fine but this looks a little more vintage.

Sometimes you just cannot make lemonade out of lemons.
As I was writing my other lemony post, phrases flitted through my head concerning our current lemon situation.

If life gives you lemons - kick them to the curb.

If life gives you lemons - beat them to a pulp.

If life gives you lemons - squeeze the heck out of them.

If life give you lemons - grate the rind off of them.

If life gives you lemons - stick them with a pin.
If life gives you lemons - drop to your knees and pray.

Flooring For The Trailer

Our little trailer update is coming along. We have a few things to address and then we can put it in storage until our first camping trip.
It has got to cool down a little before we go camping.

Everything in the trailer was so brown.
So brown.
We decided early in the process that we wanted to replace the brown floor.

Before:

That isn't dirt. It's just designed to look dirty.
Special!
We did our research and then we headed to Home Depot to look at wood-look vinyl planks.
Anything else would have been too heavy since we are pulling this behind our pick up truck.

Our first choice was the brown one in the top of the picture below.
We quickly ruled it out because there wasn't enough for our project and Bill wanted to begin the next morning.
It also just seemed weird to put brown back in the trailer after pulling all the brown out of it.

We've never had parquet flooring in house.
This style of flooring was "out" for a long time but I'd heard it was making a comeback.
We both liked it in gray and it was in stock.
Perfect.
We picked up four boxes @ $29.99 each.
We checked the dye lots on each case to make sure they were all from the same dye lot.

Bill used a razor blade knife to cut the flooring. When the trailer was made the flooring was laid before walls or anything was built into the trailer so the flooring ran under the studs, cabinets couch and bed.

It didn't take him long to remove the old flooring.

The home center assured us that we could lay the peal and stick tiles directly on the chip board.

I have no patience for finding the center, snapping plumb lines.
Bill is much better at that type of thing. I place the blame solely on my High School Geometry teacher. The grades he gave me have shaken my confidence in this area.
All those theorems to memorize.
Terrible.

This is TrafficMASTER 12 in. x 12 in. Wood Parquet Residential Peel and Stick Vinyl Tile.
30 square feet a case.
It was around a $1.00 per square foot.

Most of the tiles for this project had to be cut. There were very few whole tiles.
He worked until lunch on Saturday and until two o'clock on Sunday.

I think the slide out leaked at some point so we had to bleach one area of the flooring and let it sit over night.

It's so cute.
I love it with the black cabinets.

We ended up returning two boxes of tiles so this part of the project was only $60.00.
Well worth it.
I'll be back to talk more about the couch.
Have a wonderful day.
Katie
Update: We had a leak and two of our tiles popped up. I'll let you know if they re-stick on their own or if we have to replace them.
The leak is coming from our sky light in the bathroom.
I'll update that as well.
