Everyone, including Barbie, deserves the house of their dreams.
Someone gave us a wooden Barbie Dream House when Rebekah was little.
At some point it received a decorating overhaul.
It'd been up in my classroom until I quit my job a few months ago.
I was trying to come up with a place to store our beach towels.
I spotted this piece waiting to be put back up into the attic.
Barbie's domicile was exactly the proportions I needed.

I popped the towels inside and turned it around so that the whimsical cottage side was showing.
Barbie had window treatment issues and the bright graphics of the towels were peeking through the windows.
It wasn't going with the neutral scheme of our little sunroom.
"It's time to do a little updating, Barbie. Your valance is looking a little 1990s."
Drop cloth fabric could make some darling Farmhouse style drapes.
Kabob skewers are perfect doll house curtain rods.
I hot glued the fabric to the skewers, pinching it along to length to mimic gathers.
The curtains were hot glued into place.
This brought back fun memories.
I think I had more fun decorating the Barbie's house than Rebekah.
Perfect.
No beach-y colors show now.
Adorable.
I'll be back with more of our summer sunroom.
Have a great day.

Katie,
ReplyDeleteGreat storage idea for the doll house... And the towels are just inside your doors leading to your tank pool outside.

I saw your Barbie house, and had to come right over. I loved playing with Barbie's when I was a young girl, and still have mine to this day. Your Barbie house is delightful. Love all the pretty purple flowers. That's clever to store your beach towels there. It looks nice next to your hutch.
ReplyDeleteHappy July days.

What a cute, clever idea. I've always wanted a doll house and that I could also store towels in it gives me another reason to find one.
