31 Rue Cambon

I was telling someone about our trip to France.
One of my favorite and surreal aspects about the trip was being in the heart of the fashion design world.
So many brands have their start in Paris.

Seeing and shopping at 31 Rue Cambon was an unbelievable experience.

Why is that a big deal?

The other handbag lovers and fashionistas out there will understand.

For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to score a Chanel evening bag.
My dream scenario included an amazing find in a dusty, thrift shop.
That didn't happen but I did find one with some issues on eBay.
To be honest, I don't think the thrift store situation happens anymore.
Almost everyone realizes the value in Chanel.

During the early 1900s, Gabrielle Chanel began designing hats in Paris.
In 1918 she moved to the building at 31 Rue Cambon.
The store occupied the street level. A reception room was available to show collections.
The famous grand staircase led to the second floor which housed a private apartment.

I snapped this photo of the iconic staircase at the speed of light as we were walking through.

Coco Chanel's influence in the fashion world is legendary.
So much of what we wear has roots in the design house started by Chanel and currently run by Karl Lagerfeld.

Bouclé (buckled tweed) jackets used menswear fabrics for the creation of women's garments.

They are timeless and iconic staples in the house of Chanel.
They can be dressed up or down.

Chunky gold chain with leather woven through the links has been seen and copied by almost handbag maker.

Shoes with a contrasting toecap were usually done in the sling back style but they make perfectly cute flats.

I love this type of shoe and have it from different makers and in different colors.
I was attracted to this type of shoe long before I knew they were inspired by Chanel.

Pearl and CC necklaces in long layers grace the neck of many Chanel lovers.
I created this look out of thrifted necklaces.

Chanel #5 was worn by almost every woman during my childhood.
I still adore that smell.

Finally, the one thing every woman needs - the little black dress.
Many historians attribute this wardrobe basic to Coco and to Jean Patou.

I didn't know this at the time but the white bag and box is exclusive to the Rue Cambon store.
All the other stores send the item home in black bag and box.

The packaging is gorgeous.

I love the ribbon and the white camellia.
I seriously want to wear the ribbon in my hair and I want to pin the camellia to my lapel.
The camellia is reportedly Gabrielle Chanel's favorite flower.

I did my research although I really didn't expect that they would have what I wanted.
This is the Wallet On Chain in Caviar leather with silver hardware. There was the option to get this in lamb skin but this should be more durable.
This model came with the burgundy lining.

It's so pretty.

It's a stunning souvenir from our trip.

Thanks for reading and allowing me to share.

I did a dorky thing and cracked the glass on my computer screen.
I may not be around while it is in the shop.
Insert sad face here.

  1. The Chanel style suits you perfectly, and I can see why you adore it! I have a philosophy that everyone should know and put a name to their own style, which makes buying clothes much easier. I have always joked with my three daughters since they were young that my style is "cute and sporty" and to this day the two younger ones can perfectly pick out clothes for me.

  4. The purse is beautiful, and I am so glad you were able to visit the "home" store!
I usually have purses from Walmart, but my favorite Christmas present each year is a small bottle of Chanel #5 :) I use it sparingly and always feel like a princess when I have it on!
Thank you for the Chanel lesson! I love her suit jacket style, and wear it often...both in boucle' and just plain fabrics. They don't have the tag, but I do love the shape!:)
    Blessings,
