How To Remove Water Stains On Upholstery

I'm reposting an old blog post. I needed my own advice today. This was such a good tip but only about 75 people read the original post.
I was spot treating a couple of stains on one of my good wool blend scarves.
The spot treatment took out the stains but left water marks.
I remembered this old blog post and gave it a try.
It worked!

There was a stain on our new sofa.
It looked like a little spill of some kind and it was only about the size of a quarter.

It was bugging me so I got a wet rag and started working on it.
Big mistake!
The spot that was about the size of a quarter left a water ring about the size of a grapefruit.
So I Googled what to do. I was pretty skeptical that anything would work.
The search said to dampen the stain.
At this point I risked my grapefruit size stain turning into a pumpkin size stain.

I followed the instructions and put rubbed a damp cloth over the stain.
I covered the wet area with a white cotton cloth and ran the iron over the stain with it set on low.
I used a pillow case.

It took a while for the iron to dry the water but it did.
When I lifted the pillow case the water marks were gone.
There is still have faint outline of the original stain but it looks so much better without the huge water mark.

I'm a little disappointed that this fabric isn't a little more stain resistant.
It looks like it should be.

I was so afraid that this wouldn't work and we'd have an even bigger water stain or that the iron would melt the cushion of the couch.
Neither of these happened.
The Google search proved a success.

I hate it when there is a stain one side of the cushion so it can't be flipped.

The stain is out and we still have two perfectly good sides for cushion flipping freedom.

Update: This sofa was a dog hair magnet so it is now slipcovered.

Have a blessed weekend.
