Keep In Touch #9

Welcome to Keep In Touch.
I hope that you are getting around to visit some of the other blogs in our party.
This week I'm working on our dining room wall.
Stenciling is slow going - let me tell you.

We've been working on this room for about a month. Usually, I'm not so pokey.
We still need some drapes and some sunshine so we can do a reveal.
I'm about to paint some Easter eggs in blue and white.

They will be Nordic in design.

It's so much fun.

I'm also in the process of cleaning up my closet and getting a few new things for spring. In a few weeks, I start a long term sub job which will last about six weeks.
I'm adding a few florals and some color to my wardrobe.

Bill and I have planned about six weeks of meals so life can flow a little smoother.
He saw a list I'd started and thought he'd joke around making his own. He's got some pretty good meal ideas, if you ask me.

His Kobi Beef Burgers with blue cheese crumbles is my favorite. He doesn't even like blue cheese so I'm not sure where he came up with that one.
He thought he was super cute and clever.

He is.

This past week I shared the progress on the dining room thus far.

Ten of my favorite IKEA products were spotlighted in a post published last night.

Thank you for linking up last week.
Our feature is from Lauren @ Wonderfully Made. She made a fabulous special dinner for Valentine's Day and it all looks wonderful.

I hope you will link up again to this weeks party.

Ten "Must Haves" From IKEA

I bragged that an IKEA is only 20 minutes from the house.
That could become very dangerous - just sayin.

I love IKEA and familiarity has not bred contempt.
Here are my 10 favorite things from IKEA.
These are in no particular order.

#1.
The ROMANTISK Tray. It's $8.99.
It's been on the coffee table since we got it three years ago.

#2.
SOCKER Greenhouse
This is the cutest terrarium for only $19.99.
I adore it.

We style ours for every season and holiday.

#3.
SOCKER Watering can  It's a perfect no dribble watering can. It is only $5.99.

#4.
The SKURAR Plant pot  is only $3.99.
I love these lacy little planters.
They are perfect in a white scheme.
For a while they were tea lights to match but I don't see those on the website anymore.

#5.
The DAIDAI Plant pot is new. I got three of them this season.
They are $2.99, $3.99 and $4.99.
I really can't believe I am buying gold accessories again.

#6.
BEGAVNING Glass dome
The cloche is back in style.
I love this one with the gold base. It comes in two sizes. The small is $9.99. The large one is $14.99.

It's so cute.

#7.
I'm wild about the FINTORP Rail series.
I bought this for the kitchen but decided against putting holes in my marble backsplash.
It ended up in the guest bathroom.
They are all sorts of cute hooks and pots to hang on this system.

#8.
IKEA has great throws.
They have outlasted my Pottery Barn throws. The quality for the price is phenomenal.
My favorite one has been discontinued but here is one that is similar for $24.99.

#9.
We have had our LENDA Curtains  for about 5 years.
The price for these curtains cannot be beat.
It is very hard to find 98' curtains for under $100.00.
These are just $24.99.

#10.
We got one RANARP Work lamp in July. I loved it so much that we went back and got another one for the other side of the sofa.

You have to keep to the bulb they recommend or the lamp will get too hot.
These were $32.99 each. They are also available in black.
There is a floor lamp in the same style.

There you have it. My favorite IKEA accessories.
You can order some items from the website if you don't live near an IKEA.
Sellers on eBay also offer items for sale.
You can see our rug in this post.

I hope you had a great day.
I have worked on this post on and off since this morning. It took much, much longer than I thought.
I'll see you tomorrow for Keep In Touch.

It's A Rainy Saturday/Dining Room Makeover

Hello, Lovelies.
How are you?
It's been so gloomy here. We have had 6 inches of rain so far this month.
Most of it has happened in the last week.

This is very good news for our area because we have been in a bit of drought.

Bill and I have been working on the dining room.
Here is the list of priorities:
The rug had to go.
The cat threw up on it within the first week. The regurgitated cat food had left some yellow stains.
The good news is that the whole rug started to yellow so the stains blended right in.
Pets!
I'm not a fan of fringe-just FYI.

We bundled it up and put it by the curb.
For our makeover, we are using some tips from a lovely book by KariAnne Wood of Thistlewood Farms.
You can get your copy of the DIY Home Planner - here.

I had Bill look at the book so that we could test just how user friendly it is.
It's one thing for a DIY/Decor blogger to give commentary on a book.
I thought a review from him would offer perspective from someone not as familiar with the design process.
I knew that this book was a hit when Bill was quoting from it concerning the size of the rug for our dining room.

This is what we discovered:
There should be 18' from the wall and the edge of the rug.
The table and all chairs should sit on it.
I knew from previous experience that the chair needed to stay on the rug when pulled out for dining.
Our old rug was the appropriate size but because it was nubby, the chairs didn't easily slide up to the table.
This time we wanted the chairs to slide more easily.
We measured the room and determined the correct size.
Because we didn't want to go with something custom, we got as close to KariAnne's size recommendations as possible.

We picked up a beautiful charcoal gray rug from IKEA.
Have I mentioned that there is a new IKEA 20 minutes from our house?
I'm thrilled.

We got the DYNT Rug. It has an anti skid back but were getting a rug pad to review.
I'll review that when it gets here.
It was only $179.00. I have decided that I don't want expensive rugs. I am too fickle and I get sick of them long before they are worn out.
There is the whole cat throw up issue as well.

The color of this rug is wonderful. It has a darling damask pattern.

It doesn't weigh much and was easy for the two of to get in the truck.
Throw up cleans up easily. Really? Yes, really.
The rest of the first chapter is about space planning. Our existing furniture is staying in the room so we were on to chapter two.
Paint Colors

I have wanted to paint the dining room for a while. If truth were told, the color was "okay" but the gray looked blue in certain light and lavender in others.

I was never in love with it. Gray is a difficult color to get "right" and I'm over it.

I like the white that is in the living room,

Rebekah's room,

Chris' room,

the laundry room,

and the guest bath.

It's the same white in all of these spaces.

It's nothing fancy. It's just premixed, off the shelf "White" by Glidden.
I used it in the dining room a few weeks ago.
It looks different in this room than it does in the others.
I should have followed the advice in the DIY Home Planner and gone and gotten a few samples.

I didn't.
Who knew that the same white in the same house could look different in a different room?

I'm not sure what we will do but the next step was the accent wall.
I'll be back with more about that in another post.
The sun is finally peeking through the clouds. Alleluia!
Have a fabulous day.
Katie
I was gifted the DIY Home Planner but all opinions are my own.
I'll have more to say about the book in future posts.

Keep In Touch #8

How is everyone?
I hope the winter doldrums don't have you down. It's been so gloomy here.
Last week I shared a sparkly spring cottage

Yesterday, I shared some that blue and white pieces have come out to play.
Let's hope that the spring decor inside will motivate the outside.

Our featured blogger this week is Judy from Gold Country Cottage.
I loved her sweet Valentine's Day post.
I adore that mailbox!
Precious.

Thanks for linking up last week.
As you know, I don't really have rules. If you host a link party please share it so we can link up to it.
Have a great week.
