Happy Monday/ Oops I Mean Sunday

Hello, friends.
I've been a little MIA.
I used to be an avid magazine reader. After all the wonder of fall and Christmas the January issues seemed a little blah.
That is how I'm feeling about my blog.
I have been busy though and I thought I'd share.
I had some ladies over on Wednesday night.

I made a yummy soup.
Here is the recipe.

Italian Wedding Soup

5 links Mild Italian Sausage. We like Johnsonville. Brown, drain and cut up into slices.
1 14.5 oz can of chicken broth
1/2 jar of Prego traditional Spaghetti sauce
1 cup of water
1 can of Delmonte Whole Green beans (drained)
1 can of baby carrots (drained)
1 can of dark red kidney beans (drained)

Mix together and simmer for 45 minutes or so.
Serve over any cooked pasta. We use Penne.
Store leftovers in the refrigerator or freeze.

I have no pictures of our soup but we just love this recipe. Several ladies asked for it after dinner.
We also had bread and salad to go with it.

I did a little thrifting on Friday.
Everything was at least 30% off.
Christmas was 75% off.

This gravy boat had stickers which looked like this came straight from an antique store.

The antique store price was $45.00.
I got it for $3.50.

The knife was 70 cents. It needs some cleaning but it should polish up with Bar Keeper's Friend. It cleans everything.

I've complained to you about our bedside tables.

This Lane furniture is about 10 years old. It was supposed to be our forever furniture.
I had water on it only a few times and the top started to chip and bubble up.

We found a night stand at the antique mall when we were looking at Christmas for art for our daughter.

We put it on my side of the bed. I'm thrilled with the marble top. No more ruined wood.
I love antique furniture with marble tops.

I think it's an amazing match with the bed which honestly I didn't notice until we put it in place.
The curve at the top of the headboard matches the curve on the drawer front.

We had to beef up the leg a little to get it high enough.
I'll blog about that later when I can get better pictures.

I just love it.
I love that it is the reverse of the dresser - white and brown/brown and white.

We just need to find something for Bill's side.
I always need to sleep on the side farthest from the door. Bill has to protect me from the Zombies, I guess.

I stocked up on cleaning supplies for the new year.
I couldn't take how gross it looked under the kitchen sink so it got cleaned out.

Bill suggested that I lay the left over flooring from the trailer remodel.

They are gray distressed peel and stick tiles.
I failed Geometry so this was not easy for me.
There are many, many mistakes but I doubt anyone will notice.

My son got me a darling bird house for Christmas.
He was passing a gift shop in Seattle and saw this in the window.
How cute is this?

This precious bird cage is getting styled for Valentine's Day.
The faux artichoke was hard to understand. It's already been thrown away.

I'm playing with some trucks from Christmas to see how they will look for Valentine's Day.

I pulled out my Valentine's Day decor for a blog post, took some pictures and then put it away.
I put my winter decor back on the mantel.
It's 62 degrees today. Tomorrow it's supposed to be 72 degrees. I'm going to lose patience with our snowy branches and pinecones unless it cools down a little.

That is about it for now.
On Facebook the other night, several of us had two interesting discussions about blogging and what has happened to so many bloggers.
Our sweet friend, Stacey at Poofing The Pillows shocked our Texas blogging group when she announced she is calling it quits.
Kim of Savvy Southern Style is cutting way back on blogging and is giving up the WOW party.
Several others chimed in on her post to announce they're cutting back as well.
So sad.

I am always playing with decor around here and I decorate for each season. I hope it's not boring for you to see what I'm up to. I plan to keep blogging but more when I'm inspired instead of trying to crank out 2 or 3 posts a week.
I don't want to be one of the bloggers that slowly fades away. I will tell you about it if I ever decide to quit blogging.
I don't know what the future holds for my Keep In Touch Link party.
It may be back but it may not until February.
Kim seemed to feel that link parties are a thing of the past.
I don't know.
Tell me your thoughts.
I'm thankful for you my faithful and loyal readers. I appreciate every visit and every comment.
Katie

  1. Hi Katie: I don't get tired of seeing what you are doing and I hope people don't get tired of me either. I truly don't know how anyone finds stuff to write about every day. I only do once a week and that is enough for me. I love doing it, it is like a job to me, but one that I like! I don't have any plans to quit. I don't know about link parties. I have only a few followers that are faithful to making comments, but I do have a lot of views. Don't know it there would be less if I joined no more parties. I only do yours and one other right now. Sometimes I skip around but I really don't get any comments from being a part of a link party that much..Happy New Year.I will join back with you if you decide to come back. BTW: Your new pieces are really beautiful. Love that knife and the nightstand...Judy

  2. Katie, I'm feeling the same about my blog, but want to continue to share when I have something that motivates me to share. I posted this evening to share a few beginning of the year thoughts, one being about blogging. Thanks for sharing. Your new finds are terrific. Good for you! I popped into Good Will and a favorite thrift on a whim before Christmas and found the perfect white ironstone bowl for our Christmas Eve centerpiece. Also came home with a dated 2000 Wallace Christmas bell to add to my bowl of others. $4 and couldn't leave it behind. My Good Will finds were equally as fun and inexpensive. Found a wooden bucket with a Christmas stencil perfect for a plant and just $2.

  3. Katie, we love seeing what you're doing. I appreciate real people who have real blogs and talk about what they do in their real lives. What I do get weary of are blogs where everything is "perfect" and each post is some extravaganza. On the subject of link parties, I don't think they are over. That's about the only way to find new blogs and see who's doing what. I know they are a lot of work, but I think they are still very relevant. So many of us are going on a decade of blogging, and it's easy to suffer burnout especially if life gets hard and demanding. Those of us that still enjoy sharing our little bit of life and the world need to stick with it and each other. The key is not to let blogging take over your life. I feel sorry for the people who make big bucks but are tied to the hectic demands that blogging can put on someone. Keep sharing the fun!

  4. I had a blog break for about a year - just felt like I had nothing to say. But I have just recently come back and am really enjoying reading other blogs again. I am quite amazed at how many old bloggy friends are no longer regularly blogging, but it is lovely to read some new blogs with new ideas. Please keep blogging. Your gravy boat find is amazing and such a bargain!

  5. I love your tablescape and your new nightstand is gorgeous! Such a good idea for your undersink area...I need to do that here, too! Thanks for sharing!
I have had to cut back on blogging due to health issues and moving, but I don't stress over it...just post when I have something I want to write about. I always enjoy my visits to your blog!

  6. Love seeing your posts Katie. I love that night stand what a fabulous piece.
I am just posting when I have something to show other wise I am not stressing about it anymore.
Blogging has changed so much since I first started 8 years ago. So I feel some days that I might stop blogging but then I remember all the great friendships and keep it going. I just feel a lot of bloggers are just in it to make money with ads and they have to post so much to make their advertisers happy that they then get boring with their posts. I enjoy your posts and I also love that you visit my blog when I post. So hang in there and just blog when you have something otherwise life comes first.
    Happy New Week.
    Hugs,
    Kris

  7. Katie,
    I l o v e your blog!
    I didn't leave The Land of Blog. . .
however, I was locked out of the administration of my blog for a year and a half.
The reason it took me so long to seek help. . .I was getting over the passing of my Dad and just didn't have the energy and time to seek help. Once I contacted with a "chat". We realized it was an incorrect password and credit card number that had change.
Coming back hasn't been as easy as I had thought.
Blogging is one of my creative outlets.
Perhaps, many of the bloggers 'needs' have changed.
Some of us are downsizing and a whole other set of reasons!
Blog when you have something to share!
    LOVE your great finds!
LOVE the new night stand for the bedroom!
(That room looks intriguing and inviting!)
Looking forward to more post from you in this happiest of New Years!

  8. Hi Katie - I love your blog and the side table is fabulous! I like the link parties because that is where I have found some blogs that I did know about. :-) Also, I saw yesterday where Carol from the Red Painted Cottage is cutting back too. Maybe these ladies just need a break. I imagine it is hard cranking out a daily blog. A once or twice a week or when you feel inspired would be awesome too. Thanks for sharing with us and Happy New Year!

  9. Don't quit Katie!!! I enjoy reading your blog as you always have interesting things to show us ... and most of all, no commercial ads to dodge and shut down before I can read your blog. Sometimes there are so many ads, I just can't read the blogs. I know the ads are important to that blogger and I support her. I have been away from blogging for about three years because I had more important things to do. My husband passed away in August and I am trying to downsize and adjust to a new way of life. We were married 68 years. I have a lot to share and I will be back soon. I love your bedroom and the night stand is just so perfect.
Wishing you a Happy New Year.

  10. Your soup sounds really tasty and so easy, too, Katie! I'll bet everyone loved it. You always find such great deals while thrifting. Your new nightstand with the marble top is gorgeous!!!!!! I LOVE it. As for the linky parties, I still enjoy going, and visiting. Happy New Year to you!

  11. You did nicely with your thrifting! I love it all! I'm now on a hunt in the basement to remember where I put my Valentine things. I did find some cute Christmas pom-poms on a stick at Pier One in red and white for 70 off that will look perfect for the season, so a good find!

The soup sounds delicious. Soup season is always the best and always on the hunt for a new recipe!

  12. Your bedside table find is fabulous! I don't know what I would do without my thrifting and junking finds.....I'm constantly changing things up around here:) Can't believe I've been blogging for 10 years now. Things really have changed since way back when. So much more "competition" out there for followers, etc. Used to be it was more like a blogging community than it seems to be today. I'll continue as long as I enjoy it. Happy New Year! xo Kathleen

  15. Hi Katie, beautiful post! I love your gorgeous blue transferware of course!

I am so glad you are continuing to blog. I don't think that link parties are a thing of the past based on the positive response I have hosting Thursday Favorite Things. They are great for discovering new blogs and there is just so much inspiration. Without them I think many great blogs would remain undiscovered out there in blog land.

I am looking forward to seeing all you share in 2019!
