Summer Celebration Blog Hop/Late Summer Vignettes

Good Morning!

Welcome to the Summer Celebration Blog Hop hosted by the amazing Amber from
She is such a gracious blog hop hostess and her home is so cute.

If you are coming from Botanic Bleu, welcome. Judith is one of my dear blogging friends. She was actually assistant principal when my children were in high school. It's such a small world.
Her French Country inspired home is just stunning. I love those darling place mats.
Please hop over to Art and Sand when you are finished here. Carol has a darling cottage full of the California sun. It's always decorated in such an adorable way.

If you have been following me recently, you might remember that we were seriously considering a move. We found an adorable house that seemed absolutely perfect for us. We didn't win the bid and it turns out the buyer bid $22,000 over asking. We would never have done that but we were the back up contract so we got our hopes up. Once we knew that we weren't moving, we decided to do some improvements to our home. We had the ceramic tile cracked up and carried away so that we could put down hard wood floors. We also did some little improvements to our downstair's bath.
Our floors have been ordered and we're waiting on those to be installed.
A few hours after we finished the bathroom, our dog was attached by another dog in the neighborhood. She is fine now for which I'm very thankful.
I want this to be a happy post so we'll forget all of that.
All that to say, I'm over this summer - completely OVER IT so I've moved on to late summer/early fall decor.

Cheery sunflowers have been sprinkled about the downstairs level of our house.
It will be a few more months until we feel cooler temperatures here in Texas but I can at least pretend inside.

I'm going with faux flowers this year.
I've picked up two real bouquets of sunflowers but they aren't opening well or lasting very long.
I'm over them too.

I'm in love with the purple lavender and sunflowers together.
They're a gorgeous color combination.

Sunflowers and bees are a perfect pairing.

You can get a glimpse of our concrete floors in these photos.

Once the tile removal was done, we put the living room back together. I'm so glad we did because we may have a few more weeks until they can book the team of installers who are well versed in wood stairs.

I painted the red and white checked apple in the above picture and the sunflower painting down below.

That is about it for now.

  6. Katie,
Sunflowers say both summer and fall, and are the perfect transition flower from one season to the next. I love all your sunflowers, and the black and white one is adorable.

Thank you for the shout-out, dear blogging friend. Maybe when it cools down a bit, we can get together with more of our blogging friends in the area.

  13. So many adorable ideas here Katie! I am so sorry summer has not been the best for you, I had a rough summer too as you know. I am looking forward to fall since it is my favorite season, but I feel like I didn't get to enjoy summer so I am not ready to give up on it just yet. Sunflowers are the perfect transitional flower for summer through fall, and you have displayed them in so many creative ways.

I am looking forward to seeing your beautiful new floors too.

Thanks for celebrating summer with us!

  15. I love all the sunflower decor, Katie. I agree with Amber...the sunflower is the perfect flower to transition from summer to fall. It sounds like you had a rough roller coaster of events this summer, so I can imagine you're ready to head into fall! I'm a bit ready to get back into a routine myself.

  17. Katie count me in for being over summer. Fall is my favorite season and I can't wait for it to get here.

I love all your sunflower touches throughout your home. The sunflower in the truck in your first picture is the first time I've ever seen a buffalo check sunflower. I especially love the red truck with the sunflower seed packet. From now on when I need seeds I'm going to purposely buy seeds in pretty packets so I can reuse them in decor. So happy to be hopping with you and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your week!

  20. Late summer/ early fall makes sense to me. Silly to put back up what you'll be taking down soon after your reno work. I'm still in awe of all you did and amazed that both of you aren't in traction or physical therapy from all the work!
