Fall Vignettes 2019

I knew that when we got back from Italy, I'd want the house to have some fall decor so I pushed myself to get my favorite things out before we left.
I'm so glad I did.
While we recover from jet lag, I've been tweaking a few things here and there.
I thought you'd like to see.
You'll even get a sneak peak at our new floors.

I kept the mantel super simple.
The oil painting is from my mother in law.
The pumpkin garland is a mix of Hobby Lobby and an old one that we've had for years.

The preserved leaves came from Tuesday Morning. The basket full of buffalo checked pumpkins came from my sister in law as a thank you gift. The FALL cut out above was part of the same gift.
She was paying attention to my Instagram feed.  😊
I made the black and white pumpkins in the basket.
The candlestick table came from my mom's house as did the pitcher.

A few months ago, I painted my Pottery Barn lantern.

It was time consuming but it was worth it. I love it black and white.
It sports a ticking pumpkin, my favorite little concrete squirrel, some old books and a garland.

If you follow me on Instagram, you have seen our new corner cupboard in the dining room.
My pictures don't really do it justice yet. I'll need to work on that.
We've gained about two feet of dining space with a corner piece instead of the buffet or china hutch but more on the dining room later.

The big Jacobean revival hutch has been moved to the living room and it is being used for books and decor.

There is no T.V. in our living room which thrills the socks off of me.
Bill is thrilled that more wood pieces are being added. He was very sick with uncontrolled diabetes when I was in my furniture painting days. He is not a fan of white furniture.

The roses from my mom's service dried perfectly while we were on vacation.
The color is perfect with one of my favorite pumpkins.

Another one of my favorite pumpkins has been glued back together after a tote mishap.
It came from our local H.S. craft fair.

A squirrel bookend adorns our little shelf in the entry.
The preserved leaves of green reflect what is going on outside the window. There are no signs of fall in North Texas. It has been hot, hot, hot and we are all over it.
Summer clearly has communication issues with fall.

I'll be back with more. Keep In Touch will return next Tuesday.
Thank you all for your prayers.
Grief is a unpredictable reality. I feel fine one minute and feel like bursting into to tears the next.
It's great to get back from our trip and experience some normalcy.
If only the weather would get the same message!
Have a wonderful day.
Katie

  1. Welcome back, Katie. It all looks lovely and you were smart to get some of it done before your trip. I tend to like the warm tons of wood more than white. Especially at this season. It's very cozy.

You will have grief bursts for many moons (I still do and it's decades). But they ease and your heart begins to heal. You're still in those very raw, unpredictable times. Be very gentle with yourself. There are no rules in grieving. But self-kindness helps.

  2. I know you're glad to be back home. Vacations are wonderful, but as they say, there's no place like home. I love your simplified version of Fall, it's all so pretty. Your new floors are gorgeous, what a huge difference from the tile. All the trouble was worth it!

  3. So glad you're back safely. Time will heal your grief, although there will always be the sense of a piece missing in the puzzle of your life.
The peek at your new floors lets me know that they have created a cozy, warm feel to your home. And the move of the large hutch to the living room is a good one also. Hopefully this heat will abate soon. It's October, after all.

  5. Katie, all your vignettes look so pretty. I love the fall cut outs in the first pic. The new corner cupboard is really great and I like where you moved the larger one. Grief will hang on for a long time, and hit you hard at times even years after. I embrace it when it happens, that seems to be the easiest way for me to handle it, and then it gets easier again. It is a hard time, for sure..Enjoy the weekend..Judy

  7. Katie,
Welcome back!! Looks like you had a fantastic trip with all things considered...Your fall touches are just so charming and I too love the wood pieces. I think they add more character....Grief is funny....I still think of my Dad every day even though he is gone over 30 years and sometimes, I will see something or hear something that reminds me of him and I still tear up...Thanks so much for visiting and for your kind words!!
    Hugs,
    Debbie

  9. Welcome home, Katie. Your home looks wonderful dressed in Fall decor. Sadly, I know all about grief. It's an ongoing process, but we do have our memories to hold onto.
