An Early Spring Mantel/The Pinterest Challenge

Can a blogger have too many mantels?
I don't think so.
I'm so excited about having a mantel in our room to decorate. I've waited 26 years for this.

If you are coming from Sweet Pea, welcome. Paula always has cute stuff to share.

Welcome to the February Pinterest Challenge put together by Cindy of County Road 407.
Her county road is out in the country so it could be easy to call her blog Country Road 407.
I may have done this a time or two, oops. The Pinterest Challenge is her brilliant idea and it's a lot of fun.
Her country and city home are adorable.

The inspiration this month comes from Hip and Humble Style.

This gorgeous wooden mantel is graced with crafty faux flowering branches, a plant, a round mirror and black candlesticks.
These elements have a modern touch.

Important elements include-a touch of wood, the branches, something black, something round, and candlesticks.
I did not have a round black mirror in fact, I have very little decor that is circular.
Do I have an aversion to circles for some reason?
You tell me.
I shopped my house with this one rather than go out and purchase items to mimic the inspiration picture.

Instead of black candlesticks, I used the brass ones that I've collected. Some of them came from family, some from the thrift store and the ivy one from a garage sale about 27 years ago. I love it now as much as I did when I found it.

I grabbed one of our ivy plants from downstairs. The pop of green is so pretty, fresh and inviting.

Black is a key element of the inspiration photo. The black of the painting matches the black urn used for my branches.

Rather than make the flowered branches, I chose to grab some curly willow from my stash.
The faux purple branches came from the thrift store but I've seen these at Hobby Lobby.
The plastic twigs have the same feel as the curly willow.

The wood mantel is a prominent feature in this photo. A little hand painted box adds the key wood element to my mantel.

The painting came from my nana's house. I just adore this vintage painting which was probably from a street fair in NYC.

The fireplace screen came from our weekend trip out to East Texas.
It was marked $69.00 and is from England or France, I think. The store owner was giving us 10% off some things. I'm not sure if this was part of the sale or not. Bill and I both love it and it's easy to move to sweep up Dixie hair.

This was so much fun.

Now hop on over to see Michelle at Thistle Key Lane. You will love her early spring mantel.
