Three Month Update On Our Country House

Hello, Friends,
How are you? I hope you are well and encouraged.
Three months ago we closed on our little country house.
We have worked our booties off to get it to this point and it feels almost done!
I thought it would be fun to have a look back to see some of the changes we've made.

Exterior:

This was a huge change. It made the house look like ours.
The shutters started falling apart when Bill took them off and I like how it looks without the shutters.
I painted the front door dark green.

He also power washed the posts. They look so much brighter. He missed one so you can see how bright the first one is compared to the second one. He installed new overhead light fixtures. We liked the lantern so we kept it.
I've started landscaping.

The Fireplace In the Living Room:

I painted it the first weekend after closing. It is propane but there is no venting, so this will never be lit as far as I'm concerned. The stove and the fireplace are the only two things that need propane. Bill wants to get a new electric stove, cap the lines and get the propane tank removed.
He wanted to tear this out but I thought it could be cute. I love it. It's such a cute focal point for the living room.

The Other Corner Of The Living Room:

The living room needs a coffee table or ottoman. Shopping during this virus situation is difficult so that can wait for a little while.

Dining Area:

Kitchen:

The kitchen has been our focus the last few weeks. The first weekend we took down some upper cabinets.
I took off the plastic backsplash. I painted the walls and the window trim. Bill liked the cabinets but I thought the wood grain was ugly.

My sister and my brother both thought I should paint them. In fact my brother said, You won't be happy until you paint the cabinets." Dang it! I didn't want to have to paint them.
I was out alone and waiting on the new bed, so I got to work. I like to keep busy when I'm out there. We added pulls, knobs and crown molding this past weekend. Bill said, "I don't know why I doubt you. It was a fine kitchen. Now, it is a pretty kitchen."
Yes!
Counter tops and and a new sink are on the list. I'm not sure when that will be. The countertops look gold in the photos, because of the lighting, but they are really more of an olive color.
I'll have a separate post about the kitchen soon.

The Screened In Porch:

Read about it in this post.

Back Yard Clearing:

Bill hired a guy to remove the junk piles but each time it rains more junk is unearthed.
He cut down a pear tree that had fallen over. I'd like to replant one at some point. There are other dead trees laying around the perimeter. Those will be chipped up here and there as we have time.
The property needs its own post soon because there is a lot to say about it. Bill's been doing research about the trees. I have many gardening plans.

Phase one of this redecoration of the main house is almost done. The whole house is painted except for the ceiling in our bedroom and the outside trim. I didn't get the ceiling done before the floor went in so I'm hesitant to do it yet. I don't want to drip paint on the new floors. The outside trim was already white. It brightens up with power washing but it's too cold to power wash right now.
There will be more room reveal posts coming. I'm working on posts featuring our room, the guest room, the laundry room and the cabin out back. There is so much more to do to improve the property but we are thrilled with what is done so far.
We've having so much fun!
Have a wonderful day.
I've created a page that features all of the posts about the country house. Click here. You can see any posts that you may have missed.
I'd love it if you would me on Instagram for more little snippets of our life in the suburbs and in the country.
