Hand Painted Blue and White Easter Eggs

I've told you this story before but I don't think you will mind if I tell it again.

When the kids were little, they hunted Easter eggs.
Before the kids went out to hunt, Bill always checked the yard to make sure that the Easter bunny was gone.
One year he pretended that he encountered the bunny and an altercation ensued.
He was invariably worse for wear after his confrontation with the rabbit.

A tradition was born.

Each year the altercations seemed to become more and more violent. The kids loved it.
I'm so sad I don't have a picture of the year he got on the wrong end of a pitch fork. Hilarious.
These years just flew by.

A few weeks ago, I chatted about blue and white
It's such a classic scheme. I've been rounding up a few blue and white porcelain pieces and I've been sprinkling them about the house.

Pinterest is my "go to" spot for inspiration.

I was scrolling through images and I saw some eggs that were painted to look like blue and white china.
Hello, Cutie!
Hobby Lobby had a package of 12 brown eggs for $7.99. They were on sale for 40% off.
When we went to a china painting event at the museum, my plate was done in a classic Royal Copenhagen motif.

This is the Straw Flower motif but another common blue and white pattern is Blue Onion.

Pretty pieces in my collection became the inspiration for my eggs.

Each egg required at least three coats of white to cover the brown decoupage.

Coming up with different designs on each egg was a great exercise in creativity but it was fun!

Various elements of the Denmark porcelain were highlighted on each egg.

I don't consider myself an artist. I'm more of a copy cat. It's difficult to come up with my own motifs but other designs are easy for me to copy.
No false modesty.
All you need is the correct brushes and some practice painting a fine line.

They are styled in a beloved vintage Easter basket.

My old Dedham bunnies have all been cavorting about this season.

A Chit Chat About Classic Blue and White

Is there a scheme more classic than blue and white?
I'm not sure.
If you have followed me a while, you might remember the green glass on our coffee table.
I just knew there would come a day and I would want a change.
That day happened on a Sunday when Hobby Lobby was closed.
I knew that they would have a perfect ginger jar to anchor the space.
It's a good thing I wasn't craving Chick-fil-A or there would have been a duo of disappointment.

Patience was exercised and I waited until Monday morning.
As I thought, they had the perfect jar.

We used to have quite a collection of blue and white but it has been a while since we've had this scheme in the main living areas.

The last time, (during the 90s) most of what we had collected came from discount stores, garage sales or thrift stores. Anything that was cheap looking, chipped or broken was given away or sold but I kept the better pieces.
The glass rose bowls were two pieces that we kept because I knew that we'd love them forever.
The flower pot came from Hong Kong. My aunt lived over there during the 80s and 90s.
It needed a little cleaning up since it had been out on the deck but it cleaned up beautifully.
Love!

The cabinet in Bill's office had some pretty plates.
The green books were switched for blue ones.

We had the throws.
Hobby Lobby has some great pillow covers in the fabric department. This one landed in my cart. It was $9.99.

The butterfly is came from the thrift store a while ago.

Is it fun or creepy? Let me know your thoughts.

Don't worry. Green still has a good showing
According to my new favorite decorating book, blue and green are complementary colors and work well together.
You can pre-order now. I've heard Amazon is already shipping these out.

So let's talk about this color combination.
I did a lot of running around town looking for accessories.
In total, I went to 13 stores.

IKEA - no (their blue is sort of a Federal color - almost 80s country blue)
Michaels  - no.
Joann - no.
Big Lots - no.
Walmart - no.
Pier 1 - they had an owl and a giant urn - that shocked me a little.
T.J. Maxx - no.
Hobby Lobby - yes.
Tuesday Morning - yes.
I didn't check Target, Kirklands or World Market.
My antique store and thrift stores had nothing. Which means that blue and white chinoiserie from the 90s has ceased circulating.

As soon as the sun comes out, I'll be back with the changes in the kitchen and the dining room.

The stunning roses were a Valentine's Day gift from my sweetie.

That's it for now.
I hoped you enjoyed this chit chat about this gorgeous scheme.
Have a blessed day.

Blue and White in the Hutch

This was our every day wedding china.

It is Denmark by Franciscan.
Johnson Brothers makes it now.
In 31 years of marriage we have broken all of the salad plates and all of the cereal bowls.
I broke the last cereal bowl not that long ago.

I pulled it out a few weeks ago when we got the Paong Chair from IKEA and put it in the sunroom.

Since the chair is Swedish I thought this china should be the focal point of the dish dresser. Not the same country but the same region of the world.

The older or antique pieces came from my grandmother.

Similar patterns to this one have been made in Copenhagen, Denmark since the late 1700s.
Europeans were smitten with the blue and white china created in China.
Many of us are still smitten with blue and white.
Are you?
I fall in and out of love with it.
My grandmother had Blue Willow.

My mother had Blue Onion.

The Denmark pattern is my favorite.

I tucked two pieces into my little brass bird cage.

It feels so fresh and pretty.

I have one more change to show you in here.

Enjoy the Super Bowl.
Are you going to watch or will you be reading blogs?
I will probably catch up on my crime shows.
When we had Dallas Cowboy day at school a few weeks ago, I wore blue but didn't have a jersey.
We happen to be reviewing the star shape at the same time. I mentioned that I didn't have a star on my shirt like everyone else.
One of my little darlings said, "Cause your not a football fan."
I said, "You've got that right."
How did he know?
Have fun and don't eat too much.
;)
