They are country, nordic or farmhouse.
I browsed the internet looking for one at a decent price. There was one with my initials but at $80.00, I just couldn't do it. It seemed a little pricey.
Actual grain sack aren't very long so it wouldn't have worked for my needs. It seems by now that fabric manufacturers would have caught on to this motif and started cranking out grain sack inspired fabric but my local Joanns didn't have anything remotely close.
I apologize that I can't remember where I saw this idea but it isn't original to me.
I taped off my stripes with regular old masking tape and then stenciled on some red craft paint. I used a drop cloth.
The paint was dry in just a few minutes.
It's perfect as a runner on the breakfast room table.
The family wonders "why?" because I pull it off each time we eat.
(Why is a common question around here.)
I didn't use fabric safe paint so it can't be washed.
That wasn't my brightest move but I was impatient and didn't want to go to the store.
I love it with the red transferware.
I need to paint some more to use for pillows.
Have a happy Saturday!
Katie
This didn't fair well in the washing machine.
I recommend taking it off before someone eating.

I love this idea! I have priced them also and decided I didn't need one that badly :-)
ReplyDeleteKatie-That turned out great. I just love it. Did you use just regular acrylic or latex paint? IF you did you can turn it over and hot iron over the back of it (protect your surface) and that should SET the paint you used. You can then wash it in cold water. I have done that several times. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteOh thank you, Diana. I did use acrylic. I will give it a try.
DeleteI love it, and it looks fabulous on the table. I take my runner off every meal too. You did a great job and I love the apples.
ReplyDeleteI take my runner off too! I love yours and it goes so well with the dishes! Love the green apples in the strainer too!
