Fall Sunroom 2014

The sunroom is one of my favorite rooms to decorate for any holiday or season. It usually ends up being a little more whimsical than the rest of the house.

I'd seen some bloggers with some old, crusty looking bird books last fall. It took a while, but Half Price Books finally had a couple of books that would work. They aren't as old as I'd hoped but they will do the trick.

The sunroom got owl prints

and some other owl accessories.

I made the pillow last year with a drop cloth and a stencil.

The pumpkin in the bird cage is one of my favorites. It came from the local high school craft sale.

Do you see the little gingham lunch pail?
It came from an antique shop out by the lake this past summer.
Yikes! It's cute.
I didn't really feel up for antiquing that day but the weather was a little too bad for water activities.
I'm so glad we went antiquing.

I went on a cottage binge the year after my brother had his devastating stroke.
I think I was just trying to recapture happier times and we loved trick or treating as children.
This one is adorable. Department 56 made these for their Snow Village Halloween line.

The little hall to the powder room and office got a crow print.

The resin crow was a souvenir from Alaska.

The bittersweet is a new favorite of mine.
It doesn't grow in our area so this came from an e-Bay seller in Pennsylvania.
I'm wild about it.

That's about it for now. We are having such a heat wave!
The temperature in the truck read 100 degrees the other day. We are all yearning for some cooler weather.

I hope it feels like fall in your neck of the woods.

  5. I love the bird theme you're using in your sunroom. It all looks so good together. I love the bittersweet you found on Ebay too. That just says Fall to me. I can't get over how hot it is there! You poor thing! It was hot here last week too (in the 80's) which felt extra hot after having such a cool weekend right before. This time of year our weather is a little all over the place. You never know how to dress. Today is stormy and grey. I hate stormy weekends! But, it's going to be back in the low 70's at the end of the week. Woo Hoo! I hope you'll get some relief soon.

  6. I can't even begin to tell you how adorable that owl in the frame with ticking is! Did you make it or buy it? Is the owl a cutout? Can you tell I want to make one? I'm putting you on my bloglist so I never miss a post.

  7. Wow! Those are all beautiful decorations. Using crusty old books as decor is an ongoing trend these days. I'm glad you found the perfect books that will work best with your sunroom. I also love how lovely you've arranged the sets of furniture in there. Good job, Katie! Kudos to you! :)
