Leather Tassels

When I'm not hanging out in blogland, I hang out at the Purse Forum

  I love collecting handbags.
You can read about finding designer goods in this post.

A few years ago, bag charms became all the rage.
Little "dingle hoppers" (as Bill calls them) began adorning some of my bags.
My latest black bag acquisition needed a little something.

Can you believe this bag is 22 years old? It's like it was never used.

Getting the correct tools for leather crafting is essential.
Nothing in my stash of sewing notions was appropriate for leather crafting so I made a quick trip over to Tandy Leather in Fort Worth.
Leather needles made all the difference.
I was able to make some darling little tassels out of leather from Michael's.

This Tiffany blue one is one of my favorites.

I stitched the seam closed.

I attached the tassel to a snap bolt key ring.

Ace Hardware has these for $2.49.
They are solid brass not coated brass.

I love the pop of color on the black.

The leather was only $4.99 so this was an affordable project.
Tassels are a cute way to adorn a variety of things.
These would be cute on a leather pillow.

It was a fun craft for a chilly, rainy weekend.
Have you made anything out of leather?
I hope this finds you well.

  1. Katie it's adorable! I see those charms all over and they are so expensive! You did a great job! The last time I worked with leather I made a belt in high school. Abraham Lincoln was in office.;-)

  3. Cute tassel. I can't believe how similar your leather bag is to the bags my husband and I make and sale. Ours has a moose design embossed on the front.
And yes, I can easily a good leather bag lasting over 12 years, mine is older than that.
