A Detailed History Of Our Kitchen.

The backsplash is finished!
I thought we should have a look back at the history of the kitchen.
We started with hunter green wallpaper, oak cabinets, almond and black appliances, and white laminate counter tops.
It was a cute kitchen back in 1993.

In 1998 I scraped off all the wallpaper, textured the walls and painted with gold paint.

This was the kitchen 10 years ago.

It had been repainted Halycon Green by Sherwin Williams.
It's a beautiful Robin's Egg blue color.
The countertops were stripped of the laminate and tiled with square white tiles.
As appliances broke, we replaced them with stainless.

This was the kitchen in 2008.
I guess I was trying to warm up the space with an overabundance of knick knacks.

I reworked a big bank of cabinets to create two niches.
"Well, let's just bring in more knick knacks shall we?"

Kilim Beige from Sherwin Williams covered the blue in 2011.
I wanted to neutralize the space.
It was not my favorite look.

The dishwasher broke and we were able to replace it with stainless.

We also upgraded our sink.

A water pipe to the toilet leaked through the kitchen ceiling.

Bill agreed to let us get the cabinets painted in October of 2012
We replaced the refrigerator at the same time.

This completely transformed the kitchen.

The big cabinet started falling off the wall in July of 2014.

I put up some open shelves.

I painted the kitchen walls white before decorating for Christmas in 2014.
It made the off white cabinets look very creamy. It wasn't a welcome look.

A tiny bit of Halycon Green and white created this custom mix just three months later.
It's a very light aqua color.

We installed some Bianco Romano granite countertops last May.

A trip to Disney World postponed the backsplash. Beadboard from Lowes became a temporary backsplash.

I'm thrilled to give you a sneak peak at our new backsplash.

I need to get new switch plates and take a few more pictures before I can show you a complete reveal.

I can't wait to share it with you.
Has your kitchen undergone a transformation?

Thanks for stopping in,
Katie

  5. It is amazing what kitchens go through in a life time. All the changes and with the kitchen being the main hub of the home so many wonderful times are spent in this room alone. Your transformations are looking so great. Love the back splash. Can't wait to see more pics.

  6. I'm so happy to see your beautiful kitchen, Katie! It means there is hope! I still have light oak cabinets and horrific imitation wood looking laminate counter tops with an old/stained/pitted white sink. I know you are enjoying your lovely space. Blessings, Cindy xo

  8. What an amazing progression of the kitchen. It gets brighter as the years go by. I wish I had recorded pictures of our place and how it has changed over the years. I really love your sink, its so nice and big, mine at home is so small it gets frustrating sometimes. Thanks for sharing some great ideas with us.
