The Trailer Is Painted

My new boss wanted a quarterly report of all I have accomplished.
He also wants a list of goals not achieved and a plan for how to get them done.
Wow!
I had no idea my new boss was going to be such a micro-manager.
Nobody needs that.

I think if he just checks my blog, he can get an idea of what I have been up to.
I got a lot finished on the trailer yesterday.

It had been slow going because we were out of town last weekend.

I got the walls primed two weeks ago.

That project took about five hours.
I got them painted the next day.

Painting the walls only took an hour or two.

Paint has such transformative power.
It looked so much better even though there were still a lot of touch ups to be done.

As I was able to step back from the mess and fumes, I thought about the trailer cabinets.
Images of painted cabinets called to me like a siren of the sea.

I decided that the cabinets needed to be painted.
The brown wasn't bad but it just wasn't great.
Sadly, if this conclusion had been reached from the start, priming would have been much easier.
I wouldn't have needed to be as neat and careful.
Oh well.
I headed back out to the trailer to prime the cabinets.
The Gripper Primer from Rust-Oleaum is great but it's think and gloppy.
It isn't fun to work with but we're hoping it is good stuff.
The top cabinets got painted white on Wednesday.

I had to have a little closure so the cabinet doors were put back on the top.
The bottom cabinets got painted black the next day.
I'm so ready to be done with the painting and to get to the fun stuff.

Let's talk about the paint choices.
I used Rust-Oleum Oil Based Paint in White for the upper cabinets.
It's been my go-to white for the doors and trim upstairs and in the kid's bathroom.

It cleans up easier than other oil based paints and it is a nice bright white.
I picked this can up at Westlake's Arlington Hardware.
It is pre-mixed.

The bottom received Rust-Oleum American Accents Ultra Cover Premium Latex Paint in Canyon Black.
Even easy clean up oil based paint was driving me crazy at this point.
Latex just seemed like an easier choice.
The door to the bathroom and refrigerator also received this color.
Glossy sheen is just not my thing. Gloss shows more imperfections especially when painting with black.
Satin is my preferred sheen for trim and cabinets.
Every imperfection shows because there is no texture to any of the surfaces in the trailer.
The trailer finishes are all super slick plastic. Plastic is light weight for pulling but it is very hard to paint.
This paint job is definitely not perfect and that is okay with me because I like brush strokes.
If you do not, this project may not be for you.
Spray paint would be the better option.
Once touch ups and the second coat was done on the bottom cabinets, the rest of the cabinet doors could got put back on.

I'm very happy with it.
The pretty copper/black hardware on the white cabinet doors is so pretty.

We need to make a decision about the awful bathroom sink.
Yikes.
I'll be back to talk about curtains and fabric choices.
Have a great day.

  1. Katie, I used to be able to paint like that...but I can't do the things I used to...because of my ankles hurting from arthritis...after standing long periods. I send kudos to you , you did a fabulous job. Can't wait to see your finished project. Is that the boss drinking his coffee? LOL. You both are very cute. Blessings to each of you, xoxo, Susie

  3. Katie, this is such an exciting project! Your trailer is looking great! We bought a used RV a few months ago. It's 17 years old and I have been toying with painting the cabinets. Maybe someday we'll meet up at a campground!
