The LOVE Shutter/Ten on the 10th

Hi, friends.
Welcome to Ten on the 10th where ten fun bloggers get together to share ideas $10.00 and under.
This month we are sharing Valentine's Day ideas.
You will see a list of all the other participants below. You will not want to miss anyone.
A huge thank you to Carol @ Bluesky At Home for being our host this month.

I'm excited to insert some color into my home.
Valentine's Day is the perfect time to do that. I had some old shutters in my living room windows.
I got them years ago at a garage sale. They were installed to cover up a foggy window situation.
I was over them.

They were in the give away pile when I visited this house at Christmas.
My friend, Felicia, has a darling shutter wall. Suddenly I couldn't part with our shutters.
Currently they are up in the attic except for one.
I decided it would be a cute porch sign for Valentine's Day.
Hobby Lobby had some perfect letters for $1.49 each.
They were easy to paint with red craft paint. It was less than $2.00 at the craft store.

It took a minute to determine how to attach the letters to the shutter.
The last time I made a sign it was on wood so I drilled through the letter into the backdrop.
That wasn't going to work this time. Nailing or drilling into the louvres would break them.

I had these thingamajigs.

Bill calls them, staples?
Actually, they are called galvanized netting staples.

Anyway, I tacked the whatchamacallits to the back of each letter and threaded craft wire through the dohickys and the louvres.
Cute, cute, cute.
Did you know that there are different hammers for different jobs? I used a tack hammer.

The old paint has yellowed a bit but that is okay.
I tried my Valentine's Day shutter on the front porch but my lawn people were here taking down the Christmas lights and I didn't want to cause a stir by decorating too early for a holiday.
Haha.

The lighting was better in the living room and it makes a darling fireplace ornament.

The bottom of each letter rests on the louvres. It helps keep them level.

The letters are easily removed if I need the shutter for something else.

So for $8.00 we have a cute sign that we can use year after year.

Thanks for stopping by.
If you like it, please pin or share it.

  5. Super cute, Katie, and I love the tip about resting the letter on the louver to keep it straight. It's darling on your hearth with the hearts (I mistyped that three times, mixing the words up!). I could see doing that one.
