A huge thank you to Carol @ Bluesky At Home for being our host this month.
I'm excited to insert some color into my home.
Valentine's Day is the perfect time to do that. I had some old shutters in my living room windows.A huge thank you to Carol @ Bluesky At Home for being our host this month.
I'm excited to insert some color into my home.
I got them years ago at a garage sale. They were installed to cover up a foggy window situation.
I was over them.
They were in the give away pile when I visited this house at Christmas.
My friend, Felicia, has a darling shutter wall. Suddenly I couldn't part with our shutters.
Currently they are up in the attic except for one.
I decided it would be a cute porch sign for Valentine's Day.
Hobby Lobby had some perfect letters for $1.49 each.
They were easy to paint with red craft paint. It was less than $2.00 at the craft store.
It took a minute to determine how to attach the letters to the shutter.
The last time I made a sign it was on wood so I drilled through the letter into the backdrop.
That wasn't going to work this time. Nailing or drilling into the louvres would break them.
I had these thingamajigs.
Actually, they are called galvanized netting staples.
Cute, cute, cute.
Did you know that there are different hammers for different jobs? I used a tack hammer.
The old paint has yellowed a bit but that is okay.
I tried my Valentine's Day shutter on the front porch but my lawn people were here taking down the Christmas lights and I didn't want to cause a stir by decorating too early for a holiday.
Haha.
The lighting was better in the living room and it makes a darling fireplace ornament.
The bottom of each letter rests on the louvres. It helps keep them level.
The letters are easily removed if I need the shutter for something else.
So for $8.00 we have a cute sign that we can use year after year.
Thanks for stopping by.
If you like it, please pin or share it.

Cute use of the shutter - and your mantle is decorated so pretty - love the white candlesticks!
ReplyDeleteThis turned out great, Katie! I think I have a shabby old shutter in the garage somewhere. I'll have to go hunting...
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute and clever project Katie! Maybe someone will Konmari their shutters soon. I think a trip to Goodwill is in order. :)
ReplyDeleteKatie, this is such a great idea! I love it...looks great on your fireplace hearth! I love your garland also! Have a great one! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute, Katie, and I love the tip about resting the letter on the louver to keep it straight. It's darling on your hearth with the hearts (I mistyped that three times, mixing the words up!). I could see doing that one.
ReplyDeleteKatie this is soooo cute! I think I have a few shutters in my pile of stuff. Guess I need to dig them out and give this a try. Love it both inside and out!
ReplyDeleteOh I love it... any kind of shutter project is good with me! I especially love that you can remove the letters after Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely perfect Valentine's Day project, and I agree with Susan; it's great that the letters can be removed to re-use the shutter...St. Patrick's Day is next, right? ;)
ReplyDeleteOh my word - I have shutters and whatchamacallits! Woo hoo! Hobby Lobby here I come. So excited to be with you very talented ladies. Pinned!
ReplyDeleteShutter decor is my favorite!! What a beautiful sign. I keep looking for them at the curb, but they're always the vinyl ones. I'm on the hunt though...off to pin your pretty in the meantime!!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty Katie ... love the little red truck with all the white. Perfect Valentine decor.
ReplyDeleteKatie, I just LOVE your Love Shutter!!! I pinned it yesterday but am just getting back to pin more and to say hello here on Friday evening. I am totally loving all the creations everyone made!
ReplyDeleteHappy to be an alternate on this Valentine's 10 on the 10th tour with you,
