It happens to me each and every August. The itch for a change of seasons.
One minute I am "Too soon." and the next I'm "Bring on all the fall."
I noticed something when we were in Italy last September. They did not seasonally decorate like we do in the states. In fact there was only one restaurant with fall decor. There wasn't a pumpkin explosion like we see here and I didn't see a single faux leaf. Do I have faux leaves? Haha. Yes!
It caused me to re-think my fall decor.
In fact, I did a huge purge early during lock down. Don't get me wrong, I still have my fair share of fall totes. There just aren't as many as there used to be.
There are times for blogging sake, I need faux pumpkins because real ones aren't available.
Last year, our real ones didn't last through the whole season. I'm hoping to grow our own this year.
Bill was fishing so I got out my totes this morning and dug through them.
I wanted to see what I kept and what I thought I would use. 
I'll be honest with you. I'm angry at our dependence on a certain country for items for the home.
I'm not upset with the people, mind you. I'm disappointed in the government of that country that "shall not be named."
Early in lockdown, I wanted to throw away all decor from that country.
I stopped myself because it's money already spent but I've been very mindful of new purchases.
I've been shopping second hand for vintage items. My thrift store and antique stores are nearly empty of shoppers early in the morning. Masked up and social distancing practiced, I have been able to find a few items there. I have also ordered things from eBay. I hope it helps retirees who are dependent on second hand sales to supplement their retirement income.
In the meantime, I've been surfing Pinterest for inspiration for the upcoming season.
I don't publish inspiration pictures from other sources so these are from my archives.
I've always been one to change it up every year.
However, these were vignettes that I really loved.
They feature my favorite decor pieces which are used every year.
My bittersweet is packed away from last year. I don't know how it will look when I pull it down from the garage shelf.

It's going to be hovering around 100 degrees all week.
That's why I'm thinking about fall.

So interesting how different countries and cultures do or do not decorate seasonally. There may not be Hobby Lobbies and Michaels on every corner there. haha. I really love the "natural" look for Fall and have to remind myself to not go crazy each year. It's hard to make that work for me. Love the vintage birdcage vignette!

ReplyDeleteAutumn is my favorite season so I always look forward to it. I am at a point of life where I am minimizing. I put out some seasonal decorations but not as much as in the past. I enjoy fall baking, though, when apples are plentiful and it feels good to turn on the oven.
ReplyDeleteI'm not anywhere ready for fall. Summer is my favorite season. But I will say that when it comes, I'll see you in the faux leaves contest! I have a ton!
