The Kitchen Is Just Peachy

How are you? I hope you are doing well. 

When my brother moved a few years ago, he gave me some plates that had belonged to our great, grandmother. 

Knowing that I love a good fruity theme, I tucked a peach plate away for another day. 

Other peachy things were found during my thrifting adventures. A couple of summers have come and gone. I wasn't feeling very peachy but the peachy keen items were neatly packed away. 

I knew the day would come and it did.

Peach tones coordinate perfectly with the new Cottage Core valances so this was the summer for peaches. 

I thought I'd share how I sprinkled a few elements with a peach motif around our 2022 kitchen. 

Some flocked fruit from the craft store snuggles with a vintage beaded peach. 

This beaded piece is so pretty and it is one of my favorites in my collection of vintage beaded produce. 

The creamer has been in my collection for years. It harkens back to our yellow kitchen circa 1998. 

The kalanchoe will eventually end up outside until frost. Kalanchoes are a great buy. They bloom for weeks and then can be tucked into a summer landscape. 

I still love our kitchen. The transformation began almost ten years ago.  

I can't resist a good printable to round out a theme. The pie jar label came from the Knick Of Time blog.  

Some vintage canning jars give a subtle nod to the theme and echo the color of the walls. 

Another peachy plate was a thrifty find and it coordinates with my great grandmother's plate perfectly. 

White dishes are a must in the niches.

There are a few pops of yellow to coordinate with the valances. 

I'm loving yellow this year.

Fruit Motifs For Summer Decorating

How are you doing?

I hope you are doing well. I'm in a bit of a funk today but tomorrow will be better I feel certain. 

I love decorating with a fruit theme in the summer. If you have been around for a while, you will recognize that. That is why I've been lax with my blogging because I feel like I have said all that there is to say. I move things around from year to year, so I hope it is not boring to you. 

I shared a recent lemon theme that we have going on at our house in East Texas. 

I've added a few more bits that I thought I'd share. 

The lemon pillow came from a Raz Import Warehouse sale. Unfortunately, they haven't had one since pre-pandemic. I hope they will have them again some day soon. 

Rather than go all "lemon" I added pops of yellow. I am very drawn to that color this year. 

The black and white pillow covers are old Pottery Barn. The mustard yellow cover is new Hobby Lobby. H.L. has great pillow covers but be sure to buy them on the half off week. Hobby Lobby has an online presence now. 

The couch in E.T. isn't my favorite but we bought it during 2020 and it is so comfy that I hate to move it somewhere else. Sometimes it reads olive. Sometimes it reads brown. 

Last year we had strawberries out there but the new brick backsplash called for some contrast in my opinion. The strawberries went home and the lemons were brought out. I'm feeling the urge to change it up for the Fourth of July but we will see. 

I found the lemon printable on the internet. I usually search vintage botanical graphics.

A darling fruit topiary was a recent estate sale find. I usually hit the estate sales every Friday. It was six dollars because of a tiny chip on a leaf. 

The strawberry artifacts got placed in the "Starsky The Hutch" at our house in town. 

A few strawberries sprinkled in with red transferware is a winning combination. Bill's aunt made the gorgeous pearl and velvet strawberry. I made the ones in the forefront. They are so easy to make if you are so inclined. 

Starsky gets the prettiest morning light. 

A little cabinet in the dining room got a few bits. I gave it a new top and painted it a few months ago. 

It really serves no purpose other than decorative. It could be a wine bar I suppose. 

Decor under a terrarium? Why not? 

The dining room table houses a thrifted and estate sale collection consisting of the frame, the rabbit and the strawberry pitcher.  

The rabbit came from a sweet lady who was downsizing so that she could help take care of her autistic grandchild. There is a lot of hard stuff going on around us. Sometimes it feels a little overwhelming. 

The corner cupboard houses the complete collection of beaded fruit. They are a classic mid-century collectable. 

Most of these were thrifted but the cherries came from an antique store in Jenks, Okalahoma. 

I paid more for them because they are just too cute. 

This is the plate that probably started it all. We inherited it from my great grandmother. 

It's a sweetie.

Vintage Fruit In The Corner Cupboard

I love fruit decor in the summer. Strawberries, cherries, black berries are early summer favorites. Apples and pears are late summer favs. I've decorated with lemons and oranges as well.
I have found some darling vintage fruit collectables over the years. These are plentiful at thrift and antique stores. I guess they are considered "old lady" collections. I'll own that!

These collections are separated and stored in bins in the garage for easy access.
I store lemon stuff with lemons, apple stuff with apples etc. It makes for easy seasonal decorating.
We've reached night time temperatures that indicate summer has arrived in Texas.
 You aren't living until you experience the heat and humidity of Texas. If you have ever flown into and exited DFW airport, you know what I'm talking about. That heat just smacks you in the face as soon as you leave the cool air conditioned terminal. 

It was time to do some summer decorating. I thought about which motif to use.
 I was digging through one of the totes and found an Italian made ceramic fruit basket.

I thought it would be fun to display since we just went to Italy last year. Similar ceramic fruit baskets were plentiful in the Italian souvenir shops but this one came from a thrift store here at home. 
The twinkle and shimmer of some beaded fruit caught my eye.
Should caution be thrown to the wind?
Should all the fruit come out and play together?
Let's go crazy!

I don't know what it is about beaded fruit but I just adore it.
It reminds me of Carmen Miranda and her fruit laden hat. Check her out on YouTube for a kick. 

Beading fruit was a popular hobby for the mid-century crafter. I would have been all over it.

I've made a lemon, a strawberry and even a tiny blackberry.
It was so much fun. You can make your own since a kit may be hard to come by.  Special beading pins are required. They differ slightly from straight pins.

The Italian fruit basket and the beaded fruit took care of two of the shelves. There are four shelves in this corner cupboard and I like each shelf to have a touch of seasonal decor. 

The fabric fruit from my Thanksgiving cornucopia was pulled into action.

This fruit is sold at one of my local boutiques. They told me that it is made by a dentist that lives in McKinney. I adore her craftsmanship.
It looks lovely in a glass bowl from Bill's grandmother Vi. Vi always brought a bizarre salad made with canned French style green beans and sour cream dressing. Bill hated it. I'd like to make it just to show it to you. If you have ever heard of anything like it, please comment below.

A set of mini ceramic fruit was in one of the boxes.
I had the four sets needed for the cupboard but the mini fruit was getting lost on the higher shelf.
I pulled it down and tucked it to the side of the beaded fruit. It looks sweet in a milk glass compote.

A mini pitcher was pulled into action for the last shelf until I remembered some wooden fruit.

 It was found at the thrift store last summer and had been separated out into the various bins which why it was forgotten.

Perfect.

The pitcher and other fruity stuff was placed in the corners.

It was fun collating this collection.
Thrifting withdrawals were quenched with some eBay shopping during our Shelter In Place Order.

I think it's so gorgeous.
