Treasure on the Doorstep

I think I have shared with you that I have become the family keeper of the cr#p.
I can be a bit of a pack rat when it pertains to family treasures.
I came home from work one day and there was a box on my front porch.

My sister in law dropped it off when she was in town.
Inside the box were the remains of two Dresden candelabras.
They were somewhat broken but not without beauty.
Initially, I wasn't that happy about a box of broken china bits.
But,
it was so beautiful I decided I would try to do something with it.
Dresden comes from Germany.
It is a beautifully crafted porcelain widely know for cherubs and figures lavishly decorated with flowers in gorgeous muted tones.
These types of pieces are highly sought after and can be quite valuable.
Given the shape that these were in, I doubted that they had any value.
I also doubted that I could adequately fix them.
The candelabras belonged to my husband's grandmother.
They got damaged when the family relocated for a few years and renters were living in the family home.

I thought the pieces still beautiful and decided to just sprinkle them about in their "as is" state.
I was charmed with the result.

I love how they look with the Lord's Prayer print above the piano.

  5. Dresden figurines have always been long sought after pieces. It is wonderful that you have given them the respect they deserve. Your husband's grandmother would have been proud to know they have found a good home.I am now a follower of your blog and look forward to return visits. I invite you to join me as well on my blog at http://atastefultouch.blogspot.com
