It's Sunroom Time

I've been sitting in my favorite room and it's the perfect season for it. 
My dream for this room came from an article I saw in Victoria Magazine years ago. I originally thought that we could make the walls completely out of old French doors. 
Bill had something more finished in mind. 



We enclosed the space so we would have a quiet place to sit during the kid's teenage years. We finished this project about 10 years ago. We already had the roof. The foundation needed to be beefed up a few inches, but Bill did the rest by himself. 



He did the walls and windows and we tiled the floor, together. His brother helped with the electrical. 
Sheetrock was the worst part.
This room has gotten some tweaking in the past year. 
I painted the walls Urban Putty by Sherwin Williams.
I painted some furniture and recovered the little settee.
I re-did the little school house desk, now a plant stand. 

I love this room.
It is a great place to play with decorating styles. 
It used to be the family "meeting" room when we needed to have a serious talk with the kids. Our house has small rooms so this space gives us a few more feet to spread out. It's perfect for overflow seating during holiday get togethers.

I usually put a drink station out here. 
I am not afraid to embrace my country decorating roots in this space. 
It is a little more casual and laid back.




In most of the country this would be considered a three season room. It is not vented for heat or air conditioning and therefore it's not factored into the square footage of the house. But it is about 110 square feet.
It has a window unit for the summer but even with a small air conditioner it gets too warm on July and August afternoons. 
We can use it all winter except on days when it is in the teens or below. That doesn't happen too often in Texas. We have a couple of little heaters out here that keep it toasty on other days.
I really love it in the spring. 
 







Corrugated Sheet Metal Ceiling

    I would love to have a little room like this! I love the colors and brick...definitely looks cozy and laid back. I could enjoy a nice glass of iced tea in there.
    I'm curious, I don't recall reading, but the ceiling panels...are they corrugated tin with paint on them OR did they come white, like that?
    If you painted them would you mind telling us how you did this and got it look so great?

      It is corrugated metal. We primed and painted it before we put it up and then touched up the holes after we put it up. We just used primer intended for metal.

    What do I love ?
    1. The stack of picnic baskets - how fun!
    2. The star quilt - great design and faded colors
    3. The red chest - anything red!

    But most of all, I love the title of your blog. I teach a program to point students toward college. I tell them that they will need to go to college if they want their lives to be different than their parents. They watch their parents work 3 or 3 jobs to barely survive and have very little fun. I am going to use the line, "college will give you a life with sprinkles on to!" But only for 55 more days.

    I would love to have some iced tea or a Diet Coke with you on that sun porch! I love all the pieces you've chosen out there. I wondered the other day if you live in Texas. We moved here last summer after being gone for 23 years. I get excited each time I find a blogger who lives here. :)

    The whole thing looks great! It looks quite snug and cozy, and I like the fact that you can just convert it to a dining area for those intimate family celebrations. About the heat thing, have you considered changing the corrugated metal roof? That may be the thing absorbing too much heat, and it will tend to trap the heat in during the summer. Just a suggestion. :)

      It is fully insulated. We got a new air conditioner and it is doing a much better job cooling things off.

    This sunroom looks lovely! You definitely have a flair for unique decorating style. And I love the fact that you guys did it by yourselves! It must mean so much more to you now because you built it yourselves. I love how it now looks so spacious and airy, and how the sunlight filters through the window and hits the room in such a nice, glowing effect. Good job!
