I told you that I've been plotting our summer decor.
You might think that it's too early to decorate for summer.
It will be in the 80s this week. In Texas, summer arrives early and stays late.
I'm very inspired by some decor items that have a tropical British Colonial feel. This is also know as West Indies Style. It's not a beachy or coastal look although it can have some of those elements.

We are about five hours away from the nearest beach. Shells may be used but they will be used in moderation. It's not nautical theme but it could have some of those elements as well.
Our trip to Charleston S.C. inspired my use of some of these accents three years ago. Galveston Island has the same type of decor.
One of the upstairs closet is used for art storage. I was putting something away and saw this watercolor. Bill and I found it at an estate sale a long time ago. I knew I wanted to use it this summer.
Even though I painted the existing frame, it didn't quite fill up the space on the wall so I put it in an antique frame instead. The frame was a dollar at an estate sale.
I leafed through issues of my old Victoria Magazines to get inspired.
I noticed some common elements.

Greenery with a tropical look is essential to this decor style.
I found a beautiful majesty palm at Home Depot. It's supposed to be easy to grow. I really hope that I can keep it alive.
Any greenery with a tropical feel was dug out of my faux flower tote.
We have a couple of live ferns and we have some peace lilies or Spathiphyllum.
Peace lilies are pretty easy to grow. They like plenty of water and bigger pots every two years or so.
I've just recently divided the one that was given to me after my brother died. Hopefully, they will thrive and bloom a little better.
Alstroemeria or Peruvian lilies are a perfect tropical flower. They are affordable and last almost two weeks. Read about them in this post.

After a good cleaning and some glue removal, the basket was reused on the dining room table.
I made a wreath out of the plants.
Wicker, rattan, bamboo are fun accent pieces of furniture.
We didn't have anything wicker until I found a coffee table at an estate sale on Friday.
It was $35.00. Bill thought I should paint it but I don't know what I'll do.
Local craftsman created furniture out of native materials in the current style of the times.
Dark furniture looks good with this type of decor.
Colonists would have tucked treasured objects from home into every nook and cranny of their steamer trunks.

Any precious mementos would be mixed with new found exotic objects of art.
Artifacts crafted out of exotic materials were prized and collected by the Victorians.
I found a few cute things at the thrift store the other day.
Animal print fabric and a silk scarf were good finds.
The swan was $1.00. I saw him but passed on it about two weeks ago. I was thrilled it was still there.
The tortoise shell like glassware is just perfect for this theme.
The Gorham vanity jar was only $3.00. I love it.
