Keep In Touch #115

Hello, Friends!

How are you?
Welcome to Keep In Touch.
I'm a little early today. It is Bill's 60th birthday. We are going to our favorite Architectural Salvage place in Fort Worth. It should be fun.

The "woodland garden" is coming along.

We have pulled down miles of green briar. We've cut down lots of junk shrubs and 5 dead trees.
I think they were choked by the green briar or they didn't survive the drought. I hope it is not some sort of oak disease. We could not see that they were dead. There was so much shrubby mess back there.

This area is going to be a little sunnier than we thought. I'm going to use the fallen logs for a raised garden bed or two. We are done cutting brush down. Now it is time for clean up.
Bill has two more truck loads for the dump. He said he feels like he's working on a boy scout camp site. I'll set up a tent for him if he doesn't behave. Oddly, our son who is on vacation this week, doesn't want to help. I guess he did too much scout camp clean up too. :)
My goal is to have this finished in time for cold season vegetables.

That is the frame for the kids old swing set. Bill made it when we lived in Fort Worth about 30 or so years ago. It will be used for a porch swing in the corner behind it.  This will be an almost free project besides soil, plants and the swing. I want to "free cycle" the rest. We'll see. I want one area of the raised beds to be a plant repair station for perennials like iris and daylily. I'd like a bench too and some bird houses. Bill can build those for me.

My goal this summer was to have flowers for cutting. So far, so good.
I am in love with that deep burgundy cosmos.

I couldn't take it and cut my hair.

I keep it real for you. When I had my hysterectomy, my hair was falling out so badly that I wouldn't let anyone else cut it. I cut it myself for about a year. Wow. That skill has come in handy during a #pandemic. Who knew?
Our salons are open but Bill is so high risk, we aren't chancing that.

Now for the features.

Jeannie at Marmelade Gypsy shares what is going on in her neck of the woods.

We were supposed to visit that neck of the woods this year. Who knows when that will happen?

I love this liter box idea from TeeDiddlyDee. Our last three cats have been completely outside trained but you never know with future cats.

I adore the styling on this potting table.

  1. Hi Katie, and Happy Birthday to Bill! I hope the day is wonderful.

Thanks for the feature -- I sure do wish you could be in our part of the country. Maybe next year. I just ordered a hair trimming set and gave myself a bit of a cut. The color? That's another issue altogether! Happy week!

  2. You guys have done a lot of work. My son/husband was also in scouting. My son is an Eagle Scout. They did a lot of work on campsites. (-: I had to laugh at the tent idea. I was wondering if you had encountered any critters while cleaning up the brush etc? That area looked like a nice area for small critters and crawling things. Your hair looks great. I cut my own bangs. But I would say you are a pro at your hair cut! Happy Bday to your husband.

  3. You sure have been busy and I can't wait to see what you find at the architectural salvage place! Your hair looks great - I can trim my bangs, but that's about it...hopefully that will work for several more months. Hope you and Bill have a great day!

  10. You guys have done a lot of work. I like the term "free cycle". During lockdown, out of necessity, we did the kids' haircut ourselves. We realized it is so easy and will continue with the home haircuts even after lockdown.
