Dollar Tree Trash Basket Into Wire Cloche/Pinterest Challenge

Hi, Friends.
Welcome to the Pinterest Challenge for August.

Can you believe that August is almost over? I'm so glad since it has been 100 million degrees this month.

Our host is the adorable Cindy from County Road 407. Please hop over and say hi.
If you are coming from, Thistle Key Lane, welcome. Those raffia pumpkins are adorable.

Our inspiration this month comes from Home Stories A to Z.  It is not too early to begin thinking about fall decor.

The first thing I noticed in the photo is the brick wall. So gorgeous but this isn't about the wall.
We are supposed to focus on the cloche.
What is a cloche?
A cloche is a glass dome that was used to protect tender plants from frost. Cloche is bell in French. As is typical with fun garden stuff, they were brought inside and used for decor or as terrariums. I use glass domes for decor but wire cloches are a good dog deterrent for my garden borders. Several wire cloches were made this spring to keep Dixie out of the flowers. They look so cute in the garden.

In the inspiration picture, I see the cloche, white pumpkins, hydrangeas, acorns, and an unexpected rope element.
The rope and the brick wall add texture to this vignette.
I've been watching a lot of YouTube when I take a break in the afternoon or evening.
(This is code for "taking a nap".)
There is a genre of YouTube videos featuring Dollar Tree DIYs.
Some are like, "Okay, I can see where you are going with that." Others are, "Wow! That's genius."

That is what I thought when I saw a video that inspired my cloche.
I ran up to Dollar Tree to grab one of their black waste paper baskets.

Heavy duty scissors cut through the plastic coated wire so that the bottom of the waste basket could come off. The bottom became the top of the cloche.

With some floral wire and a needle, I began sewing through the top row of wire diamonds in order to gather them together so that a dome shape could be created. The floral wire wasn't working. Twine was the next option but it broke about half way around. Between the wire and the twine, I was able to gather the basket a create that dome shape.

A series of washers was needed to hold a cute adornment for the top of the dome.

I have a small collection of old cabinet knobs to use on projects like this.

I went with something French Provincial.

It sits in front of a watercolor that we found in France.

Faux pumpkins from Hobby Lobby got a bit of gilding with some gold gilding liquid.
They are nestled in with some dried hydrangeas. I order hydrangeas from Oregon off of eBay. Roses are a piece of cake to dry and these are from the new rose bushes that I planted during lockdown.
The brass tray is a vintage piece from my mother in law.
Gold accents warm up the space for early fall.

The wire texture in black is so pretty. I'd just been looking for a wire cloche when I saw the YouTube video.  I love this spin on a traditional glass dome.

My brick wall doesn't have the rosy glow like the inspiration picture but it will have to do.

This was fun to make. Who knew that a trash basket could become a cloche?
Be sure to stop by and see Laura's cloche at Everyday Edits.  So cute. I love the leaves.
Be sure to stop in and visit the rest of my Pinterest Challenge friends.

This week I shared  my Thanksgiving centerpiece.  I'm very grateful for all the family and friends we've had at our house over the holiday.

As a result, things are a little behind schedule, but in a happy way. I'm frantically working on Christmas decorating and hope to share that soon.

Our wonderful Pinterest board of  Monday Social Features is growing every week.

*****

Now, for this week's linking party...

Monday Social
is a social gathering of friends where we connect with others by visiting them on

Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, or a Blog.

That's right, you do not have to write a blog to participate in Monday Socials.
You can also link photos from Instagram, Facebook, or Pinterest.

Find the addresses for your friends' sites, and
link your addresses for friends to find.

*****

Each Sunday at 4:00 p.m. party goers link up photos from one of four sites, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and/or a Blog.

Old-fashioned socials were held on/in lawns, porches, parlors, churches... where friends mixed, mingled, and shared their lives... and exchanged their calling cards that gave their names and contact information.

Monday Social is a 21st century social where we exchange our calling cards (link our URL addresses) for Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and a Blog.

About The Monday Social Link Party

Good morning, friends.
I thought I'd explain about our Monday Social link party.
Two More Days!

Bloggers like to party.
It is one of the ways that they build their audience and their following.
I have used this method for years.

A blog will host a party.
They use a linking program through Inlinkz or Linky Tools to act as the host for all the links.

Other bloggers will copy the web address at the top of their specific blog post

and paste it into the link widget at the bottom of the blog hostess' page.

Is there something for those of you that don't write a blog?
Yes!
That is the wonderful and unique thing about our party.
You can link up your other social media to this Inlinkz.
Other blog parties don't have this feature.

Instagram

Many like the convenience of Instagram because they can post a beautiful picture and write a short description and have it seen by others that have interests in the same genre.
They use hashtags to get people to find their post and others with the same hashtag.
I don't know who thought this up, but it is genius.

Some of my favorite hashtags are #farmhouse or #farmhousestyle.
I see so many cute posts, so therefore I have the potential to meet new people and follow new artists showing off their craft.

I'll confess that I am late to the Instagram thing.
I wanted to use that account for personal and family stuff.

My family doesn't really want me posting about them so I've altered my settings so that others can see my posts and possibly follow me on other social media venues.
At this point Bill and I are focusing on building our brand so we are all in with as many social media platforms as we can juggle.

If you would like to add an Instagram picture to our party.
Just copy the web address at the top of your Instagram page.

Your cute picture will appear in the link up.
It's that simple.

Pinterest

The same is possible for Pinterest.
If you like curating boards and want to build a following, this is the party for you.
Just link up the web address at the top of your browser.
Make sure they are your original images.
The Monday Social hostesses will remove from the link any work or photos that are not your own.
We will be pinning from this link party.

Facebook

This can be done with Facebook as well but you may want to create your own page for the social media presence you would like to build.
My sister, for instance, might want to build a Facebook page for her "I See Joy Today" hashtag.

Finally,
Make sure that your settings are public and not private.
Nobody will be able to see anything set to private.

Please follow me on my social media platforms.

Please follow and check out the other hostesses.

Judith @ Botanic Bleu
and

I hope I've answered all your questions.
If you have more, post them in the comment section and I will be happy to answer them.

Make a Facebook page!
Create your brand or a hashtag.
Our hashtag for this party is #mondaysocialparty
My blog hashtag is #letsaddsprinklesblog

This is exciting.
Have a great day.
See you Sunday @ 4:00 Central Time.

What I Just Realized About Pinterest

I read a blurb the other day that Pinterest had changed its feed.
I knew that I started getting more "picked for you" pins.
What I thought was that my friends and those that I follow weren't on Pinterest much anymore.
Wow.
I was wrong.
I went to my sister's page. Low and behold, there were tons of pins I hadn't even seen.
Even though I had a board about clothes for travel, I wasn't seeing all her pins about packing and what to wear when traveling.
I went to one of BFF's pages. There were tons of shoe pins even though I have a board call-Shoes.
Hmmm.
I've gotten much less traffic to Let's Add Sprinkles from Pinterest.
I used to get about 1/4 of my hits from the site. It is much lower than that now.
In fact, the stuff I'm pinning isn't really getting repinned unless it has to do with Joanna Gaines.
So it makes me wonder.
Are you seeing my pins?
If not here is how to see what I am pinning?
I love sharing beautiful content with my readers and followers.
I have 2700 followers on Pinterest.
What is the point of trying to build followers if they aren't seeing what I pin?
Frustrating.

I haven't found a way to fix this except to go the person I would like to catch up with and click where it says Pins.
Maybe if that is done enough the algorithm will change.
The other way is to check the comment box next to your picture and then click the news button.
It shows what everyone is pinning.
To see what I'm pinning, go to my Home Page.
I'm pinning cute stuff, y'all.

I'm hoping the algorithm will change if I do that as well.
Pass this blog post along if your friends are having the same issue.
Pinterest has now gone the way of Facebook and I'm afraid Instagram is going that way too.
These problems are not the end of the world but I am dependent on social media...
I also want to see what my friends are up to.
Ei.yi.yi.
Thanks,

Big, Red Barn-Okay, Not So Big

Once we set up our little pool in the backyard, I started spending more and more time out in the back yard.
The views from the pool were important to me.
My view of the shed was a little uninspiring.

I added a few cute things to the wall but I didn't love the color.
Bill picked it the last time.
I must have been drugged because I don't know why I let this scheme get passed me.

It wasn't the focal point that it could be.

I'd been on Pinterest looking at pictures of gorgeous barns.
I knew red was the direction I wanted to go and he was fine with it.
He is usually up for anything as long as he doesn't have to paint. Bill hates painting.
I figured that barn red would be an easy color to find.
I thought it might even be available premixed.
Nobody had a grab and go can of red.
We got this red at Home Depot.
We usually get our paint at Sherwin Williams but their air conditioning was out. They couldn't find our white in the system and they had a sale starting the next day.
It wore me out just standing in the store, so we left.
They lost the sale.

When I opened the can of paint and brushed some on, it looked pink.
I started to panic a little but decided to let it dry before I had a freak out. It wouldn't have been the end of the world, but this wasn't exactly a cheap can of paint.
Behr paint and primer together was about $39.00 a can.
The color is Bolero.

The red paint went on pretty quick. The white trim was going to take a while.
I tried to stay under the umbrella but even with that and sunscreen, I was worried I'd get burned. I didn't.

I finished the easy side first.

I finished my focal wall.

The front took forever.
It didn't help that I was dodging the wasps that have made a home up in the left eave.

Any paint spatter that you see on the deck is a direct result of me running from a wasp.
I didn't get stung.

It looks so cute.
I can't wait to stack a few pumpkins and mums in front in the fall.
It should look great at Christmas.
We still have to do some work to the hardware and then I'll stage it and take some photos.
Our not so big, red barn is adorable.
Have a great day!
